That means your company gets direct access to: * Clinical expertise across dozens of medical specialties * State-of-the-art research core facilities * Patient populations and clinical trial infrastructure * Faculty investigators at the forefront of translational research ### Eligibility and Project Requirements Upstate HealthTech Fund project applications are selected for funding based on the following criteria: * Proposed project is aligned with Upstate Medical University strengths and areas of growth * Company has available matching funds for project cost sharing (typically 2:1 company match; Total project budgets are typically under 150K) * Commitment of an Upstate Medical University Principal Investigator * Scientific, technical, and innovative merit * Demonstrated need for support of project * Appropriateness of budget items within Upstate HealthTech Pilot Fund guidelines * Ability to successfully complete project in 12 months or less * Potential for follow-on academic-industry partnership and growth #### For More Information: Email industrycollab@upstate.

edu ### Step 1- Review Program Requirements ### The Upstate HealthTech Fund is focused on all projects HealthTech – including: * Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics * Telehealth and Virtual Care * Medical Devices and Biotech Commercialization * Specialized Clinical Technology * Genomics and Genetic factors of disease * Specialized Research Areas – Neuroscience and Cancer, Infectious Disease and Immunity, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders * Medical Education and Training with Simulation Center ### Upstate HealthTech Fund project applications are selected for funding based on the following criteria: * Proposed project is aligned with Upstate Medical University strengths and areas of growth * Company has available matching funds for project cost sharing (typically 2:1 company match; total project budgets are typically under 150K) * Commitment of an Upstate Medical University Principal Investigator * Scientific, technical, and innovative merit * Demonstrated need for support of project * Appropriateness of budget items within Upstate HealthTech Pilot Fund guidelines * Ability to successfully complete project in 12 months or less * Potential for follow-on academic-industry partnership and growth The Upstate HealthTech Pilot Fund project application is open to all companies who meet the “Eligibility and Project Requirements” above.

If you are a **company representative** with a potential project, please contact us directly to facilitate introductions with appropriate Upstate Medical University Principal Investigators, if needed. If you are a **researcher** with a potential project and a target industry partner, please contact us directly to facilitate any appropriate introductions or to formalize the opportunity for pilot funding.

* Expenses must directly relate to the scope of work of the applied research project. * All project expense administration must adhere to SUNY RF purchasing guidelines. * Vendors must be established companies with an FEIN.

Sole proprietors/independent * contractors require advanced approval. * Travel costs are strictly limited and require prior approval. * Purchases over $10,000 to a single vendor require special considerations and documentation and may take longer to process.

* The HealthTech Fund project support is awarded on an annual basis. Both Upstate and company sponsor matching funds must be expended within a 12-month period to facilitate continued projects and funding. Budget extensions may be reviewed and approved only on a limited basis.

* Upstate HealthTech Pilot project funds can be used to pay for expenses associated with university personnel and for purchasing supplies, materials, testing or other contracted services and equipment related to the project. * Overhead costs for HealthTech projects are set at 15% of total direct project cost. This cost rate is unique to the HealthTech Pilot fund program.

* Equipment (item > $5,000) purchased using project funds (CAT or company sponsor) is considered property of the HealthTech Fund and eligible for use in future projects. Equipment purchases must follow University property policies.

* Funds CANNOT be expended for: Rent, capital construction, rehabilitation, renovation, upgrading of existing space or infrastructure, telecommunications, utility costs, legal expenses, or regulatory approval process fees/costs. * Basic research or research projects that do not receive matching funds support from a company. * Costs associated with employees of the sponsor company, e.g. salaries.

* Reimbursement to sponsor company for any expenses the sponsor has already paid. ### Agreements and Contracts If selected for funding by the Upstate HealthTech Pilot Fund, the company and Research Foundation will be required to enter into a formal research agreement. This agreement will outline the terms and conditions, including payment schedule and management of intellectual property.

Principal Investigators are required to file Sponsored Project approval paperwork with the appropriate department leadership and Sponsored Programs Office to initiate account set-up. ### Reporting Requirements Reporting of economic impact is required for a minimum of 3 years for all company sponsors following completion of a HealthTech pilot fund project.

Additionally, a brief final report is due to the program manager at the end of the project period, summarizing successes, challenges, and outcomes of the applied research collaboration. This reporting is to assess the value of the fund in supporting and growing academic-industry partnerships and facilitating growth of the research enterprise both here at Upstate and beyond.

### Step 2- Schedule an Introduction Think your project will be a match for the HealthTech Pilot Fund? Schedule a time to meet with us to discuss your project. We can help at the earliest stages of your project to make sure you fulfill all the program's requirements.

Please be sure to include the following information in your meeting request: * A link to your company website * Name of Principal Investigator associated with your project (if you have one) ### Step 3- Develop Proposal Identify, meet and develop a proposal with an Upstate faculty collaborator who can act as Principal Investigator (PI) for the project.

If you are unsure which investigators could help, please contact industrycollab@upstate. edu (step 2) as we can help identify and facilitate introductions to potential Principal Investigators. Submit a Letter of Intent with a short summary of the project.
