State. gov for More Information Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation 2026 U.S. Embassy in Apia is pleased to announce the start of the 2026 grants cycle for the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).

The 2026 grant cycle celebrates 250 years of American independence. The year 2026 is also the 25th anniversary of the AFCP. As part of Freedom 250, the Cultural Heritage Center (CHC) in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is placing special emphasis on projects that honor the global contributions of the United States throughout history.

Each AFCP project will be an opportunity to highlight the enduring cultural and historical relationships between the United States and countries around the globe that shaped our national story and identity since 1776. These projects should involve technical exchange between Americans and foreign counterparts. The 2026 AFCP grant cycle will have expanded country eligibility.

To synchronize with other Freedom 250 celebrations, ECA is accelerating the 2026 program calendar and simplifying the application process to a single, full application round. Full implementation of this AFCP Freedom 250 special edition is subject to the availability of funds.

**AFCP Program Background:** Established in 2001, the AFCP supports projects that showcase U.S. global leadership in cultural heritage preservation, improving U.S. favorability overseas, and supporting U.S. foreign policy and public diplomacy goals. Local leaders and communities value AFCP projects highly, even in countries where bilateral relations may be limited.

**Competition Format:**Pending the availability of funds, awards will range from $25,000 to $250,000. **Application Requirements (Deadline March 31, 2026 4:00pm Apia Time):**Applications must fully meet the program objectives, funding areas and priorities, and eligibility requirements as outlined in the application guide. Applications must be submitted on the provided forms and formats.

All applications are required to be submitted in english. Applications can only be submitted to **ApiaPD@state. gov** via email.
