USAID Grants to reduce Climate Change Vulnerabilities in the Pacific Islands Region (Pacific-American Climate Fund) is sponsored by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Pacific-American Climate Fund. This grant supports activities that reduce long-term vulnerabilities associated with climate change and achieve sustainable climate-resilient development in the Pacific Islands region, including Papua New Guinea.

The U.S. Agency for International Development’s Pacific American Fund is a five-year program that addresses critical development challenges across 12 Pacific Island Countries, including the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

The goal of PAF is to improve the quality of life in vulnerable communities and to improve access to essential services across the region. The principal means by which the Fund supports the Pacific Region is through: 1. core grant-making facility and associated capacity building activities, and 2.

small-scale construction activity in the Solomon Islands.

The geography, isolation, and unique development context of Pacific Island Countries place them on the front lines of a complex array of development challenges, including reduced economic activity and increased stress on local livelihoods, businesses, and health systems due to the COVID-19 pandemic, high vulnerability to climate change and debilitating natural disasters, weak governance systems, and acute gender inequality.

Covering a vast area of the Pacific Ocean, these countries are vital to the global economy and critical to global stability. The goal of PAF is to improve the quality of life in vulnerable communities and to improve access to essential services across the region. The principal means by which the Fund supports the Pacific Region is through its core grant-making facility and associated capacity building activities.

PAF awards grants on an open and competitive basis to qualifying local, national, and international Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including private small and medium enterprises, non-governmental organizations and institutions, universities, and faith-based organizations. #### SMALL SCALE CONSTRUCTION Eighty percent of Solomon Islanders live in rural areas and rely on agriculture for their livelihoods.

In the Malaita Province, increasing productivity, generating higher-value agricultural processing capabilities, and developing links to new markets is key to building the economic potential of this unique island nation. USAID’s Pacific American Fund (PAF) is supporting the development of the Malaita Province through a US $8 million small-scale construction development component.
