gov Veterans Assistance Commission The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) of DuPage is a distinct unit of local government created by State Law under the Military Veterans Assistance Act and funded by DuPage County. The VAC also has an Intergovernmental Agreement between the County of DuPage. The VAC is managed by a Board of Directors who are Veterans representing the various Veteran service organizations in DuPage County.
The mission of the Veterans Assistance Commission is to provide temporary and supportive financial assistance to eligible Veterans and their families and to assist in filing VA Federal Claims. The Commission seeks to improve the quality of life for those who have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States thereby recognizing the significant contribution they have made to their families, community, and nation.
The Commission seeks to serve beyond the initial assistance provided by coordinating services with other governmental agencies, Veterans groups, private service agencies, the media, and the public, to further serve our Veterans as a facilitator or additional support services.
The Veterans Assistance Program is a temporary emergency financial assistance program and should not be considered an on-going financial supportive program over any considerable period. It is designed to provide needed services to eligible Veterans and their families who are in need of meeting basic living expenses.
It is financial assistance paid exclusively to military veterans with a Honorable or General Under Honorable Conditions Discharge, their spouses, and dependents. Eligibility for assistance to veterans and their families is based upon service in the armed forces of the United States.
To receive VAC financial assistance, all applicants shall first verify their eligibility by submitting requested information and documentation: Military Discharge Papers (DD-214) – Honorable or General Under Honorable Conditions Unexpected Financial Event A partial listing of available services provided include assistance with the following: Mortgage or rent payments. Emergency medical prescription. VA Medical Transportation needs.
Work or Home related expenses. The VAC of DuPage also offers information and referral, location and retrieval of discharge documents, and other services for the Veteran Community. The VAC board meets monthly on the third Wednesday at 7 p.
m. DuPage County - 2nd floor Cafeteria 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton When you request services from the VAC, your information is entered into the DuPage County Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
