Funding Categories - Virgin Islands Council on the Arts There are two application deadlines: January 31st – Mini Grants and Technical Assistance Grants September 30th – Annual Grants Select one of the following six categories for your project: 1. General Operating Support General Operating Support is designed to assist nonprofit arts organizations with the ongoing costs associated with carrying out their mission.

Funding may be used to support general operating, artistic, technical, performance, and administrative expenses that contribute to the organization’s overall effectiveness and sustainability. Meet all General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines. Be a nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is the production, presentation, promotion, or preservation of the arts.

Have been in operation as a public or private nonprofit organization for a minimum of two (2) years at the time of application. Demonstrate a history of producing, presenting, or supporting arts and cultural programming within the U.S. Virgin Islands. Be in good standing with VICA and have submitted all required Final Reports for previously funded projects.

Awards are available up to $15,000 per fiscal year , subject to available funding and Board approval. Applications and all required supporting documentation must be submitted through the grant portal by the stated deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.

Project Support is designed to assist with the planning, development, and implementation of arts and cultural programs, activities, events, productions, exhibitions, workshops, and other projects that promote artistic excellence and increase public access to the arts in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Applicants must meet the General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines and may include: Nonprofit arts organizations Community and service organizations Public and private schools Projects must demonstrate artistic merit, community impact, and contribute to the cultural vitality of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Awards are available up to $7,000 per fiscal year , subject to available funding and Board approval.

The Arts in Education (AIE) Program provides technical assistance, financial support, and project funding for arts-based educational programs that enhance learning through the arts.

The program supports curriculum-based, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities that integrate the arts into educational settings and foster creativity, cultural awareness, and artistic development among students.

Applicants must meet the General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines and may include: Public and private schools Nonprofit arts organizations Community and service organizations Professional associations Churches and faith-based organizations Technical assistance is available to artists, educators, and organizations seeking to develop and implement meaningful arts education programs.

A letter of endorsement from the Principal of the school in which the project will take place must be submitted at the time of application. Projects submitted by Department of Education schools or personnel must also include endorsement from the Insular Superintendent of the applicant’s school district. Awards are available up to $5,000 per fiscal year , subject to available funding and Board approval.

Arts in Underserved Communities The Arts in Underserved Communities Program is designed to increase access to the arts by supporting planning, presentation, professional development, capacity building, and collaborative projects for individual artists, new and emerging arts organizations, and communities with limited access to arts programming.

The program seeks to encourage participation in the arts, foster creative growth, and strengthen the cultural infrastructure of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Meet the General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines. Be an individual artist, nonprofit organization, community group, or emerging arts organization serving an underserved population or community.

Demonstrate how the proposed project will increase access to the arts, encourage community engagement, or strengthen organizational capacity. First-time applicants are strongly encouraged to apply under this category. First time applicants are encouraged to apply in this category.

Technical Assistance funding is available on a limited basis to support the professional development and organizational capacity-building needs of individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations. Funds may be used to assist with travel, registration fees, workshops, conferences, management consulting services, grant writing assistance, and other activities that enhance artistic, administrative, or organizational effectiveness.

Meet the General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines. Demonstrate how the proposed activity will contribute to professional growth, organizational development, or increased capacity to serve the arts community. Required Supporting Documentation Applicants must include supporting materials relevant to the proposed activity at the time of application.

Such materials may include: Conference or workshop registration information Event brochures, agendas, or promotional materials Training or consulting service descriptions Cost estimates, invoices, or quotations Letters of invitation or acceptance, where applicable Incomplete applications or applications submitted without the required supporting documentation may not be considered for funding.

NOTE: Supporting materials i.e., conference or meeting registration/brochure, etc., must be included with grant application submission. Awards are available up to $2,500 per fiscal year , subject to available funding and Board approval. Applications and all required supporting documentation must be submitted through the grant portal by the stated deadline.

Discretionary Grants provide financial assistance to individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations for arts-related projects, activities, opportunities, and special initiatives that support the advancement of arts and culture in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

These grants are intended to address emerging needs, time-sensitive opportunities, and projects that may not fit within VICA’s regular funding categories. Meet the General Eligibility Criteria outlined in the VICA Grant Guidelines. Be an individual artist or nonprofit arts organization engaged in arts and cultural activities within the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Demonstrate the capacity to successfully carry out the proposed project within the grant period. Awards are available up to $2,500 per fiscal year , subject to available funding. Discretionary Grants are awarded throughout the fiscal year on a limited basis and are subject to the availability of funds.

Awards are made at the discretion of the Executive Director based on factors including, but not limited to, artistic merit, community impact, urgency of need, availability of funding, and the applicant’s ability to successfully implement the proposed activity. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.
