2025-2026 Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program - California Grants Portal The purpose of the Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program (VNSP) is to increase the number of appropriately trained Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) providing direct patient care in a qualified facility or area in California.
The Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program (VNSP) makes awards to eligible applicants currently accepted or enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or accredited Associate degree program that prepares them to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse for a scholarship of up to $4,000 in exchange for a 12-month service obligation practicing and providing direct patient care in an eligible geographic or approved site designation within six months of graduation.
Must start training program by September 30, 2025, be enrolled in a minimum of 6-semester units, or its equivalent, until program completion, graduate after January 31, 2026, not have an existing service obligation with other entities, including other HCAI programs, not be in breach of any other health professional service obligation, maintain a GPA of 2. 0 or greater until program completion.
For a facility to qualify, it must be in an eligible geographic or site designation. The date (and time, where applicable) by which all applications must be submitted to the grantmaker. Time listed as “00:00” equates to midnight.
Expected award announcement The date on which the grantor expects to announce the recipient(s) of the grant. The length of time during which the grant money must be utilized. Total estimated available funding The total projected dollar amount of the grant.

It may be either State or Federal (or a combination of both), and be tied to a specific piece of legislation, a proposition, or a bond number. Funding is through a $5 surcharge for renewal and licensure fees of Licensed Vocational Nurses in California. The manner in which the grant funding will be delivered to the awardee.
Funding methods include reimbursements (where the recipient spends out-of-pocket and is reimbursed by the grantor) and advances (where the recipient spends received grant funds directly). The VNSP awardees receive one payment upon execution of their contract. State agencies/departments recommend you read the full grant guidelines before applying.
