The Department of Veterans Affairs provides compensation, health care, and vocational training benefits to biological children of qualifying veterans who have spina bifida or certain other covered birth defects.
Eligible children must have a veteran parent who served in the Republic of South Vietnam between 1962 and 1975 or near the Korean demilitarized zone between 1967 and 1971, and the child must have been conceived after the parent's qualifying service. For birth defects other than spina bifida, only children of female veterans who served in Vietnam are eligible.
Monthly compensation is paid at one of three disability levels based on severity. Applications are submitted via VA Form 21-0304 to the Denver Regional Office.

The monetary compensation may be paid at one of three disability levels, based on the severity of the disability.
Eligibility Requirements (Spina Bifida) A male or female Veteran's child may be eligible if: The Veteran parent served in the Republic of South Vietnam during the period from January 9, 1962 through May 7, 1975, OR The Veteran parent served in or near the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ) during the period from September 1, 1967 through August 31, 1971 and was exposed to herbicides (service between April 1, 1968 and August 31, 1971 in or near the DMZ presumes exposure to herbicides.)
, AND The child was conceived after the date on which the Veteran parent served in either the Republic of South Vietnam or the Republic of Korea, AND The child has been diagnosed with a form of Spina Bifida other than Spina Bifida Occulta. NOTE: VA has no requirements regarding the character of the parent's discharge or the length of his or her service.
Eligibility Requirements (Birth Defects) A female Veteran's child may be eligible if: The female Veteran served in the Republic of South Vietnam during the period from February 28, 1961 through May 7, 1975, AND The child was conceived after the date on which the mother served in either the Republic of South Vietnam, AND The child has a covered birth defect that resulted in a permanent physical or mental disability.
Service records prove that the biological Veteran parent has qualifying Vietnam or specific Korean service dates and duty assignments, AND Evidence shows a biological relationship between the child and the Veteran parent with qualifying Vietnam or specific Korean service, AND A birth certificate determines date of conception, AND Medical evidence reflects a diagnosis of spina bifida or a covered birth defect.

The Department of Defense FY2026 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) provides funding for U.S. universities to acquire research equipment and instrumentation in areas important to national defense, including AI and machine learning hardware. The program is administered jointly by the Army Research Office (ARO), Office of Naval Research (ONR), and Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), with approximately $34 million available and 95 awards anticipated. DURIP funds the acquisition of specialized computing hardware for AI/ML research (GPU clusters, TPUs, neuromorphic processors), robotics and autonomous systems testbeds, sensor arrays and data collection systems for machine learning training, high-performance computing infrastructure for defense-relevant AI research, and laboratory equipment for human-AI interaction studies. The program specifically supports equipment that enhances research-related education in DoD-priority disciplines. While general-purpose computing is not eligible, computing equipment directly supporting DoD-relevant AI research programs qualifies. No cost sharing is required.
Vinnova, Sweden's national innovation agency, funds projects developing applied AI solutions for Swedish industry through its Advanced Digitalization Programme. Each project can apply for between 2 and 10 million SEK (approximately $190,000 to $950,000 USD) covering up to 50% of eligible project costs. The total call budget is 60 million SEK. Projects run for 12-24 months and focus on two key areas: Intelligent Edge (AI for real-time application in the sensor chain) and AI-based decision support. All projects must address industrial needs and integrate gender equality and climate change perspectives. Scientific publications must be open access. A parallel call also funds AI and cybersecurity projects at 1-10 million SEK per project with a 50 million SEK total budget.
