Today, Washington Gas announced 46 community investment grants supporting nonprofit organizations across Washington, D. C. , Maryland, and Virginia totaling $545,000.

The investments reflect Washington Gas’ refreshed Community Investment program , launched earlier this year, which focuses on four key priority areas: Environmental Stewardship Through these investments, Washington Gas is supporting trusted local partners working to create lasting, meaningful impact for the people they serve, addressing critical community needs, and strengthening resilience across the DMV.

By supporting organizations making a difference at the local level, Washington Gas continues to advance its Here for the DMV and Here for Good commitment across the region. “These investments are about showing up for the communities we serve and backing the organizations creating real opportunity across the DMV,” said Blue Jenkins, president of Washington Gas.

“We’re proud to support nonprofits that are helping neighborhoods grow stronger and more connected. ” One of the grants was awarded to DC Central Kitchen, a longstanding partner of Washington Gas. DC Central Kitchen supports workforce development and job training programs that help connect unemployed residents with meaningful career opportunities in the culinary and hospitality industries.

Grants were also awarded to A Wider Circle, American Red Cross, and 43 other organizations (full list below.) “DC Central Kitchen’s partnership with Washington Gas dates back more than 15 years, including Washington Gas employees devoting hundreds of service hours in our kitchen and numerous investments in our programs fighting hunger and poverty in DC,” said Mike Curtin Jr., CEO of DC Central Kitchen.

“This remarkable gift from Washington Gas will allow us to connect unemployed DC residents with meaningful culinary careers while ensuring that our local restaurant and hospitality sector has the talent it needs to thrive. ” Later this year, Washington Gas will request proposals for a second round of Community Investment grants as part of its ongoing efforts to support community-informed solutions across the DMV.
