Weave with NWO as Partner Agency 2025/2026 is a grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) that funds Dutch researchers collaborating with partners from Germany, Luxembourg, or Belgium on bilateral research proposals submitted through the Weave mechanism.

In this scheme, the foreign research funder (DFG, FNR, or FWO) acts as lead agency and handles scientific evaluation, while NWO participates as partner agency for Dutch co-investigators. Eligible applicants are Dutch researchers partnering with German, Luxembourgish, or Flemish collaborators. Award amounts are not specified.

Weave with NWO as partner agency 2025/2026 | NWO 22 August 2025 - Replaced document “OC M Weave partner checklist”. As part of the Open Competition ENW-M, researchers from the Netherlands can be involved in a bilateral research proposal that is submitted to DFG, FNR or FWO. Together with partners from Germany, Luxembourg or Flanders they can submit a Weave proposal.

This foreign research funder will act as lead agency and is responsible for the scientific evaluation. In such case, NWO will acts as partner agency. The bilateral application and the foreign researchers must meet the conditions of the funding instrument designated by DFG, FNR or FWO.

The applicant from the Netherlands and the Dutch part of the requested budget must meet the conditions of the call OC ENW-M (the Dutch designated funding instrument). Note! For Weave applications in which the Dutch applicant acts as main applicant, NOW will act as the lead agency.

In such cases, the application should be submitted as an ENW-M-1-Weave application via https://www. nwo. nl/en/calls/open-competition-domain-science-m-2025/2026 .

Full, associate and assistant professors and other researchers with a comparable position may submit an application if they have a tenured position (and therefore a paid position for an indefinite period) or a tenure track agreement at one of the organisations mentioned in the Call for Proposals.

Researchers with a one-year or a two-year employment contract who are expected to be offered a permanent employment contract after the initial one-year or two-year period has elapsed, are also eligible to submit a proposal. An additional condition is a. o.

that a main or co-applicant may only submit an ENW-M proposal, including a Weave proposal, regardless of whether NWO or DFG/FNR/FWO is lead agency, for substantive consideration once every twelve months. In a Weave proposal, the NWO side may apply for the equivalent of an ENW-M-1 proposal. This means that a maximum of one Dutch applicant and that a maximum of €400,000 may be applied for, from which one temporary scientific position (PhD student (not possible in case of a Weave proposal with DFG*) or postdoc) will be funded in combination with the other available budget modules.

The module for Money follows Cooperation is not available in this funding form. Only apply for what is essential to carry out the project. Applications with DFG as lead agency and NWO as partner agency may be submitted to DFG at any time during the period from 7 August 2025 to 31 July 2026 .

If a proposal is submitted to DFG, the deadline for submitting the administrative submission to NWO is five working days after submission to DFG, at 14:00:00 CE(S)T. The deadline for submitting applications with FNR as lead agency and NWO as partner agency follows the deadline of the FNR CORE Programme. The deadline for submitting applications with FNR as lead agency and NWO as partner agency is 21 April 2026, at 14:00:00 CEST.

If a proposal is submitted to FNR, the deadline for submitting the administrative submission to NWO is five working days after submission to FNR, at 14:00:00 CE(S)T. The deadline for submitting applications with FWO as lead agency and NWO as partner agency is 1 April 2026, at 17:00:00 CEST.

If an application is submitted to FWO, the deadline for submitting the administrative submission to NWO is five working days after submission to FWO, at 14:00:00 CE(S)T. The lead agency assessment procedure is followed, as set out in the designated Weave funding channels at the respective lead agencies. NWO has no further role in the assessment.

The foreign lead agency submits the advice of their assessment committee to the NWO domain Science board. The domain Science board decides whether to accept or reject the Dutch part of the proposal. It follows from the agreed Weave principles that Weave applications submitted abroad must be among the top 20% of proposals to be eligible for allocation.

Funding a Weave proposal is only possible if the foreign lead agency and NWO as partner agency reach the same decision. If the lead agency rejects the proposal, the domain Science board will also reject the proposal. For this Call for proposals, your Weave proposal must fit within the Science domain and be submitted to one of the selected review boards (DFG)/ research areas (FNR)/ expert panels (FWO).

If in doubt about the suitability of the content, you are advised to contact the programme's contact person at NWO, DFG, FNR or FWO well before the deadline. Prepare a data management plan after the grant is awarded and before the project starts. The administrative applications must be submitted through the ISAAC application and reporting system. If you do not have an ISAAC account yet, then please create one at least one workday in advance.
