Apply for a Grant - Petplan Charitable Trust Celebrating 30 years supporting advances in animal health and welfare Petplan Charitable Trust awards grants for the benefit of the health and welfare of dogs, cats, horses and rabbits. This year, we are accepting applications for Welfare Grants only. Scientific Grants have been paused.

Applications for each grant type are open once a year. Links are only available when applications are open. Applications are now open for the People’s Grant - a £50,000 grant awarded through a public vote.
Eligible charities are invited to apply for funding to deliver transformational projects. Applications close at midnight on Friday 6 March 2026. Apply here .
Applications for WELFARE grants are now CLOSED. The Welfare Committee will consider all applications and successful applicants will be notified in March 2026. The 2025/26 scientific application process has been paused – please check back here for updates.
These are scientific study awards for dogs, cats, horses and rabbits. There are two categories: PUMP PRIMER and INITIAL SCIENTIFIC. Pump Primer is for pilot studies.
These usually run for 1 year. It is envisaged that some of these pilot studies will lead to larger research projects. We have increased the PUMP PRIMER grant to £12,500.
Initial Scientific. These awards are for larger studies that may run for 1 to 3 years. They require an initial application form.
Successful initial applications will lead to full application and interview. Applicants in private practice must provide ethical approval for the proposed study from the RCVS. ALL SCIENTIFIC APPLICANTS MUST COMPLY FULLY WITH OUR ETHICS POLICY AS FOLLOWS: The Petplan Charitable Trust will support studies on natural disease conditions in companion animals, to prevent their occurrence, provide a cure or eliminate suffering.
Its support is limited exclusively to subjects of accepted clinical importance and of concern to the general public and studies must be of a non-invasive nature.
