The Wellcome Prize for Mental Health Science with Nature is the world's largest global prize for mental health science, launched by Wellcome Trust in partnership with Nature in May 2026. The prize recognizes and supports breakthrough advances for anxiety, depression and psychosis that deliver measurable health impact.
The award explicitly champions digital and AI-based interventions alongside new pharmacological, psychological, and social interventions from around the world.

Entries are assessed by an expert panel against four core criteria: novelty, credibility, effectiveness, and adoptability, alongside the strength of lived experience engagement. The overall winner receives USD 1 million, and three finalists each receive USD 250,000 to support continued development.
The prize complements Wellcome's existing $30M+ portfolio supporting Mental Health Awards for digital interventions and generative AI for anxiety, depression, and psychosis research.
