Wellcome Trust Grants (various programs) is sponsored by Wellcome Trust. Wellcome is a global charitable foundation that supports science to improve health. They have a history of significant investment in neglected tropical diseases and research capacity building in Africa.

Eligibility and applications details for the Wellcome Accelerator Awards, which will support researchers of Black, Bangladeshi and Pakistani heritage in the UK to make successful career transitions.

#### Administering organisation location: Your salary (if required) and up to £200,000 for project expenses #### Strategic programme: This scheme provides funding for established researchers and teams from any discipline who want to pursue bold and creative research ideas to deliver significant shifts in understanding related to human life, health and wellbeing.

Awards can be up to 8 years, but may be less for some disciplines, and may be longer if held on a part-time basis. The average duration of a Discovery Award is 7 years, although we have supported awards from 3 to 8 years. You will need to justify this in your application. The average size of a Discovery Award is £3. 5 million.

Applications above £5 million will be subject to additional scrutiny. #### Strategic programme: Twice a year - Upcoming deadline in September 2026 This scheme provides funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity. Through innovative projects, they will deliver shifts in understanding related to human life, health and wellbeing.

By the end of the award, they will be ready to lead their own independent research programme. Usually 5 years, but may be less for some disciplines, and may only be longer if held on a part-time basis. Your salary and up to £400,000 for research expenses.

Certain costs do not count towards the £400,000 research expenses limit. Check 'Research costs we'll cover' for more information. #### Strategic programme: Apply anytime - Applications are accepted year-round Funding for projects that robustly test the real-world effectiveness and assess implementation strategies of scalable transformative early interventions for anxiety, depression and psychosis in young people.

#### Administering organisation location: * Anywhere in the world (apart from mainland China) 12 months for the Foundation Phase and up to 5 years for the Impact Phase £200,000 for the Foundation Phase and £5 million to £8 million for the Impact Phase #### Strategic programme: The aim of this scheme is to make the impacts of climate change on physical and mental health visible to drive urgent climate policy action at scale.

#### Administering organisation location: 5 cohorts with the first intake in autumn 2027 The exact amount awarded will depend on the size and scope of the programme proposed. We expect to fund approximately 12 programmes with an average award value of £12 million.

#### Strategic programme: As part of Wellcome’s first series of Evidence Synthesis Infrastructure Collaborative (ESIC) investments, Wellcome will fund five new global infrastructure hubs to catalyse radically more timely, relevant and affordable AI-enabled evidence synthesis to address policy-scale challenges. We expect to make 5 awards in this competitive funding call.

#### Strategic programme: * Data for Science and Health These awards will support transdisciplinary teams with the time and resources to create new research agendas and explore innovative ways of working to catalyse research discoveries at the intersection of genomics, humanities, social sciences and bioethics #### Administering organisation location: * Anywhere in the world (apart from mainland China) Up to £500,000 for each award #### Strategic programme: Apply for our Mental Health Award focusing on using physical activity and circadian-based interventions.

#### Administering organisation location: * Anywhere in the world (apart from mainland China) We expect to make 5-10 awards in this highly competitive funding call. #### Strategic programme: This scheme provides funding for mid-career researchers who have the potential to be international research leaders.

They will develop their research capabilities, drive innovative programmes of work and deliver significant shifts in understanding related to human life, health and wellbeing. Usually 8 years, but may be less for some disciplines and may only be longer if held on a part-time basis. You will need to work with your organisation to justify your request in the context of the support they will provide. The annual expenditure for a Career Development Award is usually below £250,000 excluding the applicant’s salary. Applications above this value will be subject to additional scrutiny.
