(Deposit Photos) Oklahoma opens applications for wetland restoration funding By : Journal Record Staff // August 18, 2026 // OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Conservation Commission has opened applications for the second program year of its Restoring Natural Ecology in Wetlands , or ReNEW , program.
The program provides technical assistance and financial support to Oklahoma landowners who implement approved wetland creation, restoration or enhancement practices. The Oklahoma Conservation Commission said the program is designed to increase the quantity, quality and biological diversity of wetlands across the state. Approved applicants can receive reimbursement for 80% of the total cost of an eligible project.
Oklahoma’s wetlands provide several environmental and recreational benefits, including improving water quality , reducing flooding, replenishing aquifers and providing recreational opportunities. The application period is open through Sept. 30, 2026.
Applicants must be district cooperators with an approved cooperator agreement. Those who receive funding are expected to implement and maintain the approved conservation practices to help ensure the long-term success of their projects. The OCC Wetlands Team will review and rank applications using a preset ranking tool.
Approved applicants and their conservation districts will be notified by Nov. 2, 2026. For more information, interested individuals are encouraged to visit their local conservation district office, the wetlands website , or email [email protected] .
