Energy & Home Repair | Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Making homes safer and more energy efficient Our programs help Maryland homeowners, renters, and property owners improve the safety, comfort, and energy efficiency of their homes. Eligible households may qualify for grants or low-interest loans to make critical repairs, energy upgrades, and accessibility improvements.
Energy grants and loans for homeowners and renters Making sure your property is energy efficient, will provide savings on your monthly utility bills, increase comfort, and livability of your home. Provide income-eligible homeowners and single-family renters with energy-saving upgrades at no cost. BeSMART Home Loan Program Offers low interest rate loans for homeowners to make energy efficiency upgrades.
Financing to support the construction and rehabilitations of homes that produce as much energy as they use. Net Zero homes are energy efficient homes that produce as much or more energy than they will use. Since 2020, DHCD provided $945,000 to Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc. to create six Net Zero homes in Fairmount Heights.
Critical repairs and rehab programs These programs help fix a variety of housing conditions, including critical health and safety hazards and accessibility needs. They may include grants, loans, or both. Financing to help bring homes up to building codes and address major repair needs.
Accessible Homes for Seniors Financing for accessibility improvements to help seniors remain in their home and maintain their independence. Financing to install plumbing in structurally sound homes without running water. Healthy Homes Production Grant Financing to help identify and fix health and safety hazards in their homes.
Financing to help reduce or eliminate lead-based paint hazards and protect residents from lead exposure. Financing to help homeowners buy out ground leases, most commonly in Baltimore City. Multifamily developments programs Energy Programs for Multifamily Developments Provide grants or loans to multifamily properties that are affordable or house low income households.
Repair Programs for Multifamily Developments Provide financing for the development and preservation of affordable rental housing in priority funding areas.
