Whole Person Health and Wellbeing — George Family Foundation Whole-Person Health and Wellbeing Spirituality and Inner Life We believe in whole-person health and wellbeing that nurtures all aspects of our humanity — mind, body, spirit, and community. Empower people to take charge of their health and wellbeing — so that all may thrive and flourish in their lives.
Foster an integrative and proactive model of healthcare that places the individual at the center, embracing a full range of evidence-informed treatments and support. Ensure choice and expand access to whole-person health and wellbeing for people of all races, genders, and socioeconomic levels.
To support achievement of our aspirations, we seek to fund an intentional mix and balance of Whole-Person Health and Wellbeing endeavors, including: Community-Based Whole-Person Health and Wellbeing We are increasingly investing in community-based (vs. medical system-based) organizations that are aligned with our aspirations in whole-person health and wellbeing — moved by the unique positioning of community organizations to ensure choice, expand access, and empower people to take charge of their own health and wellbeing.
Medical System-Based Whole-Person Health and Wellbeing We fund select initiatives at leading medical systems that are committed to fundamental internal change by developing/deepening an effective and pervasive whole-person model of care. Healthcare Choice & Individual Agency We believe strongly in choice and agency — that individuals should be empowered and supported as the principal agents of their own health and wellbeing.
National Leadership and Engagement We are committed to supporting national and regional efforts to advance whole-person health and wellbeing. Professional Training and Education We invest in professional training and education programs, with the goal of increasing the availability of whole-person health and wellbeing practitioners — especially practitioners of color.
George Wellbeing at YMCA of the North George Wellbeing at the YMCA of the North is a deeply equity-focused initiative that aspires to bridge the gap between conventional healthcare and accessible practices, supporting individuals and communities whose needs are not fully met by currently available institutions.
Inspired by the success of the George Wellbeing Center at the Y in downtown Minneapolis, YMCA of the North has launched a fundamental transformation of their brand and core purpose across their entire system of 23 membership locations, eight overnight camps, eight day camps, 36+ youth development and childcare sites, and extensive online presence and offerings.
The George Wellbeing initiative offers a robust mix of in-person, digital, and hybrid experiences, with personalized health and wellbeing coaching at its core. Key practices and programs include mindfulness, nutrition, acupuncture, massage therapy, mental health therapy, and physical therapy. And the Y is ensuring that all have access, not solely Y members.
George Family Whole-Person Health Initiative at University of St. Thomas Morrison Family College of Health (MFCOH) MFCOH’s vision is to address the needs of the whole person, while dismantling health inequities.
The George Family Whole-Health Initiative is a college-wide, community-engaged initiative to support health equity through whole-person health care and innovation that, as MFCOH describes it, “would transform us from the inside-out and from the outside-in to be on the forefront of the paradigm shift to whole-person health — mental, social, spiritual, and physical.
” In additional to embracing a role as a community and national leader and convener, MFCOH is committed to developing integrative health training modules in partnership with cultural consultants and community partners through the university’s Continuing and Professional Education program (CAPE) for faculty, staff, students, and the community.
Family Tree Clinic is a trauma-informed and community-centered Sexual Health & Wellness Center that believes in treating individuals as whole people. They work to address the systemic oppressions and disparate access to care that profoundly impact marginalized communities, through innovative, personalized sexual health care and education for diverse needs.
Family Tree Clinic is a leader in the LGBTQIA+ community, and a critically important provider of trans hormone care — especially following Minnesota’s 2023 legislation making it a sanctuary state for gender-affirming care.
In addition to direct care and services, Family Tree also offers comprehensive sexuality and healthy-relationships education, engages in robust community engagement, and conducts extensive training for health care professionals. Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) PPNCS’s mission is to affirm the human right to reproductive and sexual health and freedom for all by providing excellent care and trusted education.
For over 90 years, they have been devoted to providing access to comprehensive, medically accurate sexual health information as well as compassionate and non-judgmental reproductive health services for all individuals that need care. They continue to build on this strong foundation and meet new challenges as they arise.
PPNCS is the largest provider of reproductive health care in its region, serving nearly 100,000 people each year across the five states. PPNCS also reaches more than 55,000 people in the region each year through comprehensive sex education programs for parents, teens, and families. Mayo Clinic Women’s Health Mayo Clinic Women’s Health is the hub for sex and gender medicine at Mayo.
It is an umbrella entity that encompasses activities in Mayo’s “three shields” — clinical practice, education, and research — as they relate to women’s health. Its mission is to optimize women’s whole-person health and wellbeing throughout their life span by integrating sex and gender concepts into clinical care, research, and education.
Launched in 2019, its initial five-year vision is to: Transform the care of women by providing personalized, integrated, flexible care that is actionable and applicable in the context of the woman’s life; Empower women to prioritize their care; to identify appropriate options and solutions for prevention and management of conditions; and to take action based on their health needs, genetic traits, lifestyle, and personal preferences; and Position the Mayo Clinic Center for Women’s Health to be recognized as the top destination for women’s health and wellness in the country.
While it does not reside in a single division, department, site, or physical space, Mayo Clinic Women’s Health builds and maintains strong alliances with all specialty areas and disciplines to enhance care for women, raising awareness and providing services.
