Critical Home Repairs Grant Accessibility Information HAF WholeHome Critical Home Repairs Grant Applications are closed. We have used all available funding and are no longer accepting new applications.
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) WholeHome Grant created under section 3206 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, helps Maryland homeowners facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It supports critical repairs in primary residences that could lead to displacement if not addressed.
Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Standard Grant: Up to $10,000 Exceptions: Up to $15,000 may be made for extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis with documentation of need.
Examples of Eligible Repairs Non-functioning heating/cooling systems Electrical and plumbing/septic repairs Lead paint/Asbestos removal Structural and maintenance issues Experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020 Income at or below 150% of County AMI (see the Income Limit Chart in the program's Frequently Asked Questions ) Must be a Maryland homeowner Must reside in the primary residence Must be named on the deed of trust Provide a work proposal for the critical repair from a licensed and insured Maryland Home Improvement Contractor, with photos or drawings.
Application Status: Closed Applications Opened: January 22, 2026 Applications Closed: April 2, 2026 (closed early because funds ran out) To qualify for assistance, your application must include: One work proposal estimate for the critical repair, dated within the last 60 days. The proposal must include photos and come from a licensed and insured Maryland Home Improvement Contractor.
