Wildlife Housing Scholarship Grant

Wildlife Housing Scholarship Grant is sponsored by National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA). Offers financial support for constructing or renovating wildlife rehabilitation housing to meet standards and assist in permit renewals.

### NWRA Wildlife Housing Scholarships NWRA Wildlife Housing Scholarships Up to $3,000 (US dollars) Application Period: August 1st - November 1st The NWRA Wildlife Housing Scholarship is funded through the generous contribution of three members, and may be continued into future years through the generosity of a variety of donors, including any NWRA members who wish to contribute.

The amount available in any one year depends on the amount of funding received from donors. This scholarship benefits NWRA members and licensed/permitted rehabilitators in the United States through an opportunity to receive a cash scholarship for building, repairing, or renovating housing used exclusively for the rehabilitation of wildlife.

NWRA matches an amount to be raised by the applicant; in other words, NWRA may fund up to one-half the projected cost of a project. NWRA’s goal is to help rehabilitators meet wildlife housing requirements as published in the _Standards for Wildlife Rehabilitation_, 2021 edition. In many cases it also helps meet the requirements for state and federal rehabilitation permit renewal.

Preference is given to NWRA members and to home-based licensed/permitted rehabilitators. The completed application must include the following.

The applicant must submit a business plan including: * A detailed description of the project and why it is needed * The name of the project manager and why this person is qualified to lead the project * A drawing of the proposed housing/repairs showing dimensions * Description of location and address (own property, center, rent, lease) and staffing (number of paid staff, volunteers, etc.) * A materials list and an estimate/quote of costs for the entire project * An explanation of where the balance of funding is expected to come from, including a list of potential donations of money and materials * Species, including age and condition, to be housed in this particular housing, along with an explanation of how this housing meets or exceeds the _Standards for Wildlife Rehabilitation_, 2021 edition for the animals you intend to house.

Refer to specific pages in the _Standards_ book. * An explanation of how this wildlife housing will affect your rehabilitation * Copies of state and/or federal wildlife rehabilitation permits currently held and issued to the applicant; you must include the permit(s) that allow you to rehabilitate the species you will be housing.

* Two signed letters of recommendation * Be sure to include everything requested; incomplete applications will not be considered. The application process is announced during the summer and applications must be submitted by November 1. The scholarship recipient is notified no later than January 1.

During the following NWRA symposium, the scholarship recipient is announced; recipient need not be present.

The scholarship recipient must submit a report to NWRA by December 1 of the year funds are received showing how the money was used in accordance with the business plan accompanying the application, and must include pictures of completed housing or repairs together with receipts for materials, labor (if applicable), and all other expenses paid from scholarship funds.

If the project is not completed by December 1 of the year in which funds are awarded, all funds must be returned to NWRA no later than December 1. The selection committee requests that the scholarship recipient prepare a PowerPoint presentation, if possible, that can be presented during the Symposium the year after receiving the scholarship.

This is your opportunity to show off your new or newly renovated housing, including design, sizes, materials, location, and how it will enable you to provide better care for wildlife in rehabilitation. Submit to NWRA by December 31. Please note: if any of your references wish to send their letters directly to NWRA, they may do so by sending PRIOR to the deadline of November 1 via email to scholarships@nwrawildlife.

org with the subject line containing your name and the scholarship name. The letter should be on letterhead where possible and should be signed and dated. Please refer to the Guidelines for Scholarship Applicants and Recipients.
