Updated: 9:05 AM CDT Oct 19, 2022 OKLAHOMA CITY — Thousands of grant dollars are available through the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma. They’ve opened the Oklahoma Initiative Fund Grant cycle with a mission to serve rural Oklahoma.

"What we want to do is provide grants to communities that have a particular need, have an idea about how to fill that need, just need a little bit of extra money," said Teresa Rose, CFOK executive director. CFOK focuses on servicing the entire state, primarily communities outside of Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

"To really just help them strengthen their purpose, help them make their communities better and the people that live there," Rose said. They open up the grant cycle annually, but this year, they’re celebrating 30 years and wanted to do something big to celebrate. "So, it grants up to [15,000], in the areas of food insecurity, health or mental health services, literacy or strengthening rural libraries," Rose said.

Rose said these services are important because oftentimes, these are smaller communities don’t have the same access to funds. "They maybe don't have the same tax bases, eligibility for grants but those communities still have significant needs," Rose said. The deadline to apply is 5 p.
