## Our Grantmaking Priorities Our strategies — Expand Opportunity, Support Learner Success, and Connect and Align Systems — work together to address three key challenges related to our North Star. * High-quality postsecondary education and workforce training programs are not widely accessible to learners from low-income backgrounds.
* Even where high-quality programs exist, systemic barriers prevent many learners from accessing and completing them because those programs were not designed to meet their needs. * Existing opportunities are delivered through disconnected systems, wasting time and money and too often leaving learners at dead ends.
We envision a world where more low-income learners succeed in postsecondary education and workforce training as a path to upward mobility, regardless of race, rurality, history of incarceration, or other factors. We focus our grantmaking on identifying what works for learners and helping effective solutions reach greater scale.
We fund grants that generate proof points — innovations, promising practices, and evidence-based models with the potential to grow. We also support the conditions that make progress possible, from building organizational capacity to improving data availability and strengthening connections across systems. Throughout this work, we test ideas, validate those that show promise, and help the most effective solutions expand.
And with every grant, we capture and share what we learn to inform our future grantmaking and support the broader field. ## Addressing Learner Needs Learners from low-income backgrounds face a wide range of challenges. Our North Star reflects our commitment to understanding and addressing these barriers so all learners can succeed in postsecondary education and workforce training.
We identify race, rurality, and incarceration as systemic factors that shape opportunity, helping us understand not only which solutions work, but for whom. Across all our grants, we prioritize data-driven innovations and evidence building to expand opportunity at scale.
## How We Advance Solutions Our commitment to building evidence includes identifying innovative solutions, validating those that show promise, and strengthening the conditions for those with the strongest evidence to reach greater scale. Across our core strategies, we make exploration, validation, and scaling grants based on what we know and don’t know about what works, for whom, and under what conditions.
Transforming systems starts with understanding the barriers learners face — and the solutions that remove them. We work with nonprofit media organizations and field leaders to share these stories widely, making the challenges and opportunities clear and accessible to all changemakers. We partner with organizations whose work aligns with our core strategies.
Our grant partners include postsecondary education and workforce training providers, intermediaries, researchers, and media organizations from across the U.S. Most of our grant **opportunities are by invitation only**, meaning we do not typically accept unsolicited proposals. Occasionally, we issue open requests for proposals as part of specific initiatives.
