As part of this program, the City will receive $50,000 to distribute as microgrants to fund youth-led climate initiatives benefiting the Redmond community.

Youth Climate Action Fund Fair - September 2 from 4:00 - 6:00 p. m.
Micro-grant projects must: Be proposed, designed, and led by at least 2 young people (ages 15-24) Align with one of the Big Move priorities in the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan Be completed by April 2027 Operate with a budget of $1,000 to $5,000 Focus on youth leadership and action Each project must include: At least one direct output (such as number of events held) At least one outcome (the result of those output activities) A numerical target for both of the above What Type of Projects Are Eligible?
Projects should relate to one of the Five Big Moves outlined in our Environmental Sustainability Action Plan : Improving Existing Buildings Building Energy Efficient and Resilient New Buildings Providing Accessible and Sustainable Transportation Achieving Zero Waste of Resources Fostering A Resilient Community and Natural Environment Projects may range from mobilizing tree-planting or public education campaigns to launching recycling or waste reduction initiatives.
Outcomes from any project awarded a microgrant from the Youth Climate Action Fund will help advance critical community goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions or progressing one of the Community Actions outlined under each Big Move. How Much Funding Will Projects Receive? Applicants may be awarded $1,000 - $5,000 for their projects.
Funding will be dispersed through the fiscal sponsor working with youth applicants. How Do Applicants Choose a Fiscal Sponsor? Youth teams applying for the Youth Climate Action Fund are recommended ask an eligible organization they are familiar with to be their fiscal sponsor.
If applicants do not have an organization to ask, the City will try to match their application with a fiscal sponsor. What is the Role of a Fiscal Sponsor? Fiscal sponsors will manage the funds for grantees.
Eligible Fiscal Sponsors must: Be legally registered entities Be recognized as a non-profit or charitable organization under local laws (unless they are a public entity) Have a bank account in the organization's name Sign the City of Redmond's Fiscal Sponsor Agreement Examples of eligible fiscal sponsors include: Youth-led organizations (e.g. youth clubs or groups) Youth-serving organizations (adult led organizations supporting youth) Sponsor organizations such as city agencies, schools, educational institutions, museums, or community organizations Click here for more information on the roles of a fiscal sponsor.
