Youth Grants

Youth Grants is sponsored by Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation. Funds programs that aid disadvantaged children and youth, supporting education, basic needs, mentoring, and other youth development services in three West Virginia counties.

Receive - Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation During the Morgan County reception in June 2025, winners of our “Be a Grantmaker” raffle contest, Scott Callindash and Jordan Warren, won the opportunity to each award a $250 grant provided by EWVCF to a Morgan County nonprofit organization of their choice. Scott chose Morgan County Starting Points. Jordan awarded hers to Berkeley Springs Pride.

EWVCF Awards a Wide Variety of Grants Grants from Designated Funds Several of the endowed funds managed by the Community Foundation were established by donors to support one or more specific nonprofit organizations. Other funds benefit favorite charitable causes.

Some of the grants made by these funds require that a proposal be submitted, while others are crafted so that we simply mail checks to the appropriate charities on a quarterly basis. There is great flexibility in grantmaking when donors establish a fund at the community foundation. If you are interested in learning more please contact us.

Grants from Donor Advised Funds In addition to our competitive grants, we also award a number of donor recommended grants, for which no application or final report is normally required. In these cases, checks and details about the grants are sent to area charities with no advance communication. So, for those nonprofit organizations that receive an unexpected check in the mail from the Community Foundation, congratulations!

Grants from Field of Interest Funds Many donors have established field of interest funds to help support favorite causes in perpetuity. Through a competitive grant application process, our field of interest funds award grants to local charities for any number of projects and programs. Nonprofit organizations are asked to submit grant proposals at different times of the year, which are then reviewed by our grants committees.

Grant categories include Youth, Education, Arts & Design, Housing, Healthcare, Human Welfare, Workforce Development, Job Training, Natural Resources Conservation, and Historic Preservation . Applying for a Field of Interest Grant and Reporting on a Grant Received The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation accepts applications for a variety of competitive grant programs throughout the year.

During the first quarter of the year, we will open our Winter grant cycle, with applications for Human Welfare, Animal Welfare, and Healthcare being accepted. During the second quarter, we will open our Spring grant cycle, with applications being accepted for Housing, Senior Care, and Jefferson County Historic Cemeteries.

We are also proud to announce that we will now be hosting our Detlev and Mary Ellen Preissler Fund for Arts, Design, Music, and Nature annually! Public school teachers and nonprofits with programs that inspire and educate children through art, music, design, and nature should look for these applications during the second quarter of the year.

Throughout the third quarter, we will be accepting applications for our Berkeley County Industrial Park Development Fund grants, our Two Rivers Giving Circle grants, and our Mini Grants to Teachers! BCIPD grants focus on workforce development, job training, business recruitment, and employability initiatives. Two Rivers grants focus on programs related to natural resources conservation and historic preservation.

Mini Grants to Teachers are intended to be used by public Pre-K-12th grade teachers to purchase supplies and materials for special projects, provide resources for the classroom, and support projects and programs that are not covered by school budgets or other means. In the fourth quarter, applications for our Youth and Education grants will be accepted.

These grants will go towards organizations with programs and projects serving the youngest members of our community and supporting educational opportunities. Finally, towards the end of the year, we will accept applications for our Frank C. Fischer Veteran Fund grants from organizations across the Eastern Panhandle providing great services to Veterans in Berkeley, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties!
