Member Training & Benefits The Youth Mental Health Corps uses the power of national service as a bridge to career pathways to simultaneously address the youth mental health crisis and empower young adults with promising and meaningful careers.
Youth Mental Health Corps is designed for young people between the ages of 18 to 24 years old to gain experience and certifications while serving in communities with limited access to mental health resources. These young adults bring a personal connection and motivation that uniquely position them to work with youth.
Texas Youth Mental Health Corps AmeriCorps members serve with a Communities In Schools (CIS) school-based program by offering case management through weekly one-on-one or small group sessions to economically disadvantaged students.
These sessions focus on six core components of the CIS program: supportive guidance and counseling parent & family engagement college & career readiness The Texas Youth Mental Health Corps begins service in fall 2024 .
Texas has partnered with Communities In Schools (CIS) programs in Central Texas, North Texas, and San Antonio, where members serve to improve academic engagement and build social-emotional skills for students at middle and high schools. Learn more and apply for the programs below.
Member Training & Benefits AmeriCorps members serving in the Texas Youth Mental Health Corps earn essential trainings within school-based mental health navigator framework, including: Case-Management & Supportive Guidance Services Trauma Informed Care & Mental Health Awareness Professional Skills Development Additionally, AmeriCorps members earn one or more of the following certifications: Youth Mental Health First Aid AS+K Suicide Prevention Certification CPR and First Aid Certification All Youth Mental Health Corps members receive AmeriCorps benefits and will have access to national career exploration and networking opportunities.
