Applications will be accepted through August 31, 2026. Where curiosity meets technology. The ZwillGen Fellowship is designed for lawyers interested in emerging technology, evolving regulation, and complex legal questions.

Fellows work alongside attorneys across the firm on matters involving privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, online platforms, and other technology matters shaping the modern world.

They contribute directly to client counseling, investigations, litigation, and emerging regulatory matters, while also participating in research, writing, speaking engagements, and broader industry conversations—developing practical experience while working on legal issues evolving in real time.

Fellows work closely with attorneys across the firm and may contribute to: Research and analysis on emerging issues involving privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, surveillance, digital platforms, and technology regulation Client matters involving regulatory compliance, investigations, litigation, cybersecurity incidents, and consumer protection issues Emerging questions involving AI governance, digital advertising, platform regulation, financial technology, and online safety Writing, speaking, and engagement with the broader technology policy, privacy, and civil liberties community Internal thought leadership initiatives, precedent development, and collaborative firm projects "The ZwillGen fellowship is a fantastic place to launch a career as a privacy and technology attorney.

Fellows are entrusted with real responsibility early on and benefit from a collaborative environment where people are passionate about their work and deeply invested in each other’s growth." – Yiannis Vandris, Fellow, 2025-2026 The Fellowship is designed for recent law school graduates and early-career attorneys interested in working at the intersection of law, technology, and public policy.

During the Fellowship, participants gain exposure to both counseling and litigation matters while contributing directly to substantive client work, research, and thought leadership. Fellows are encouraged to pursue areas of personal interest, contribute to industry conversations, attend relevant events and hearings, and engage with organizations across the technology policy and privacy ecosystem.

The Fellowship is a 12-month position beginning in Fall 2027. Fellows are expected to have graduated from law school prior to the start of the program and either have taken, or plan to take, a bar examination near the beginning of the Fellowship period. Fellows must be able to work out of the DC office and be eligible to apply for admission to the DC Bar.

Salary range: $115,000 – $125,000 The Fellowship includes a reduced annual billable target of 1,250 hours to create meaningful space for writing, professional development, policy engagement, and participation in the broader technology and privacy community.

Following the Fellowship, Fellows may be invited to join ZwillGen in a full-time attorney role and/or receive support in pursuing future opportunities within the technology law and policy space.

Recent Fellow Experiences Assisted with regulatory and investigative matters involving privacy, AI, and consumer protection Helped respond to cybersecurity incidents and data breach matters Drafted client alerts and research on emerging AI and privacy regulations Participated in privacy industry conferences, workshops, and hearings Contributed to articles, speaking engagements, and broader industry discussions Worked collaboratively with attorneys across counseling and litigation matters Strong candidates will typically demonstrate: A genuine interest in technology, privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and emerging legal frameworks Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for complex, evolving legal questions Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely A collaborative mindset, strong work ethic, and willingness to engage across disciplines Interest in participating in the broader technology policy and privacy community Relevant coursework or prior experience involving technology companies, privacy or civil liberties organizations, government agencies, public interest organizations, or technology-related legal issues is a plus.

Because the Fellowship focuses heavily on technology law, candidates primarily interested in traditional intellectual property practice may find the program less aligned with their goals.

Hannah Schaller Memorial Skylark Fellowship In addition to the ZwillGen Fellowship, a small number of applicants may be considered for the Hannah Schaller Memorial Skylark Fellowship, created in honor of our colleague and former Fellow, Hannah Schaller.

This Fellowship recognizes a recent law graduate who demonstrates a strong interest in privacy law, meaningful engagement with the broader community, and the qualities Hannah brought to her work and to the privacy field: intellectual curiosity, generosity, warmth, and a commitment to lifting others up.

In addition to participating fully in the ZwillGen Fellowship program, the Skylark Fellow is encouraged to engage deeply with the broader privacy and technology policy community through mentorship, writing, events, and collaboration with organizations working on Internet, privacy, civil liberties, and emerging technology issues.

The Skylark Fellowship includes a reduced annual billable target of 1,100 hours to support additional community engagement, thought leadership, and professional involvement. Applications for the 2027–2028 Fellowship Program can be submitted here .
