Activity one continued: means to deal with licensing and image use and availabiity.activity two:maintaining, adding, and enhancing the saul steinberg foundation's collector systems database to provide a solid, complete, and definitive platform of information on steinberg and his art for future scholars. The database will have general public accessibility to top levels of the data base's information and additional levels for scholars on a case-by-base basis as administered by an as yet undetermined academic entity, which may need to be indepemdent of yale univeristy's beinecke library and archives, the repository of steinberg's papers, a large quantity of his art, and extensive archival materials.
The widespread program of donations of steinberg's art to museums by the saul steinberg foundation has continued aggressively. Amid the multiple us museum gifts, a special initiative of the foundation's art donation program was directed to milan, italy, the second most important city in steinberg's life after new york city (which has seven museums and a library owning significant holdings of his art). In milan, due to the two steinberg retrospective shows and related publications that were produced, the foundation increased the amount of art given to milan's triennial museum and to the city's venerable brera picture gallery's braidense library. As a result there will be over two hundred steinberg's artworks and study collection resources held by these two key milan art museums.
Gallery shows and consignments were arranged with the pace gallery, the drawing room in easthampton, ny., and the pucker gallery in boston. Due to the heightened visibility of steinberg's work through several other small shows organized by museum recipients of gifts, and powerfully led by the major pompidou museum show in paris and milan museum projects, the general appreciation and knowledge of his steinberg's art has significantly risen.
