Jones@ade. arkansas. gov The Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is pleased to announce that a total of $7,200,000 will be awarded to 36 new out-of-school time programs through the Federal Title IV-Part B, Nita M.
Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) competitive grant program. The office of 21st CCLC received 103 Intents-to-Apply and 64 full applications. The 36 new centers will bring the total number of centers throughout the state to 87.
The total allocation for the 2026-2027 school year programs will be $13,889,500. The Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC grant provides financial support for the creation or expansion of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
These programs help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, such as reading, literacy, math, and science; offer students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offer literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. Centers receiving funds are required to begin programming by October 1, 2026.
