Africa Climate Resilient Investment Facility (AFRI-RES) Under the Next Generation Africa Climate Business Plan, knowledge generation plays a critical role in driving transformational climate action.
Specialized sector or thematically focused trust funds, such as the Africa Climate Investment Facility (AFRI-RES), are important resources for creating robust analytics and building capacities. AFRI-RES is a partnership between the Africa Union, African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the World Bank Group that was established with support from the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) .
It seeks to set up an Africa-based centre of technical competence and excellence to assist governments, planners and private developers in Africa to integrate climate change in project planning and design, thereby attracting funding from both development and climate finance sources.
The World Bank has developed sector-specific guidance and a series of knowledge and lessons notes under AFRI-RES to support knowledge and capacity building. World Bank Led Components Project Level Technical Assistance The first project component provides catalytic grants to World Bank teams to further embed climate resilience in the design phase of their projects.
Guidelines, Standards and Good Practice Notes The third project component focuses on developing an online toolkit that provides users with a systematic method to discuss and measure climate resilience in projects. Outreach, dissemination and training The second project component includes a range of activities will be undertaken to encourage behavioral change on climate-resilient investment planning.
