, July 28, 2026 --( BUSINESS WIRE )--The Anthem Blue Cross Foundation today announced more than $1 million in new grant funding to support five California organizations working to expand access to behavioral health services, strengthen community-based care, and improve mental health outcomes for children, young adults, families, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
The multi-year investments reflect the Foundation's ongoing commitment to addressing behavioral health needs by supporting innovative, community-driven programs that connect Californians with timely, culturally responsive care.
"Behavioral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being, yet far too many Californians continue to face barriers to accessing care," said Beth Andersen, president, Anthem Blue Cross of California. "These grants will help trusted local organizations expand services, strengthen the behavioral health workforce, and connect more people with the support they need to thrive."
The Foundation awarded grants to the following organizations: 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic (San Francisco) to develop an integrated behavioral health assessment and linkage system that improves access to mental health services for youth and transition-age youth.
California State University, Stanislaus to train community health workers (CHWs) to increase community awareness and utilization of behavioral health services, helping bridge gaps between underserved communities and care. Sacramento Loaves & Fishes to support the Genesis Mental Health program, expanding access to behavioral health services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The Midnight Mission (Los Angeles) to expand mental health and substance use disorder services through the HomeLight Family Living Program, helping families experiencing homelessness achieve greater stability and wellness.
Downtown Women's Center (Los Angeles) to enhance mental health and wellness programming for women experiencing homelessness, providing trauma-informed services that promote healing, resilience, and long-term stability.
Together, these investments support innovative approaches to behavioral health care, including workforce development, integrated care models, early intervention, and expanded access for historically underserved communities throughout California. The Anthem Blue Cross Foundation works with nonprofit organizations and community partners to improve health outcomes by addressing the social and environmental factors that influence health.
Through strategic investments in local communities, the Foundation supports initiatives that improve access to care, promote healthy communities, and help Californians live healthier lives.
