US-Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund BARD is a competitive funding program for mutually beneficial, mission-oriented, strategic and applied research of agricultural problems, jointly conducted by American and Israeli scientists. Scientific innovation, academic excellence, human capacity and foresight are the building blocks of the long-term resilience of a nation’s economy and society.

To support beneficial, mission-oriented, strategic and applied research of agricultural, food and nutrition challenges, jointly conducted by American and Israeli scientists. Our programs are open to research scientists, graduate students, and postdocs. We fund cooperative research and development in agriculture.

Award duration: Up to 3 years Maximum award: Varies with targeted IIA track The Va’adia-BARD Postdoctoral Fellowship Designed to identify and support young scientists who will eventually become leaders in agricultural sciences and technologies. Award duration: 1-2 years Maximum award: $64,000 including travel expenses.

BARD Food Security Technology Accelerator This program is a unique opportunity to accelerate food security innovation through binational collaboration, supporting projects at critical stages of development and helping bring transformative solutions to market. Maximum award: $1 million Funds projects conducted cooperatively by US and Israeli scientists. Covers all phases of agricultural R&D including strategic or applied research.

For September 2025 submissions, BARD will exclusively consider Pioneer track submissions Maximum award: $310,000 for a 3-year grant Graduate Student Fellowship The program enables Ph. D. students in one country (U.S. or Israel) to travel to the other country to acquire new skills and techniques in their field of study.

Award duration: 2-6 months Maximum award: $1,500 per month and $2,000 to cover travel. International Workshop Grant The purpose of the BARD workshop is to identify research needs in areas of new development.

Maximum award: Varies: $20,000 to $45,000 Seed Grants for Workshop Participants The objective of this program is to extend the impact of BARD supported workshops, by funding “a Seed Grant” for early-stage joint research collaboration.
