How Foundation Giving Works The AWI Foundation makes a positive difference in our communities through funding from our parent company and generous employee contributions, which the Foundation matches up to $500 per employee. Each year, the Foundation awards Better Building Grants to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations during a defined application period.
2026 Grant Application Window: Please check back within these dates to apply. Applications are only accepted during this timeframe in 2026. Better Building Grant Types Maintenance Grants support routine repairs, upkeep and essential facility improvements.
Renovation Grants support larger-scale renovation, modernization or improvement projects. Foundation Success Story: Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic Several years ago, the AWI Foundation formed a relationship with the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic. Upon discovering the clinic’s capital campaign, the AWI Foundation made a donation to fund the renovation of the facility, transforming it into a comforting and functional space.
Since then, the AWI Foundation has continued to provide financial support to maintain this high-quality facility for the members of our local community. The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster When the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster renovated two of its clubhouses, they realized that exposed ceilings and walls were creating a significant amount of noise. Children were distracted and still struggled to make themselves heard.
The AWI Foundation provided a $100,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club for renovations on both clubhouses and donated ceilings and wall products to help them create a quieter, healthier and more effective spaces for children to learn and play. The Lancaster Public Library has been serving the area for more than 260 years, and in 2023, it opened a cutting-edge building in the city's Ewell Plaza, serving as a hub for community enrichment.
As a company headquartered in Lancaster, working with the library created a direct line of support for the local community, sharing AWI's extensive design knowledge and innovation with the public. The AWI Foundation award a Building Better Grant of $100,000 and donated products to help the Lancaster Public Library bring its vision to life, creating a new space for education, involvement and innovation.
Cultivating Philanthropy at AWI Plants In addition to annual United Way contributions in all of our plant communities, the AWI Foundation allocates philanthropic dollars to each of our plants, giving them the ability to support local causes they believe in.
In 2022, employees at AWI plants in Hilliard, Johnstown and Newark, Ohio; Marshfield, Missouri; Millwood, West Virginia and Pensacola, Florida received funding from the AWI Foundation that empowered them to support charitable organizations with direct impact on their local communities, including food banks, community gardens and community support for low income and homeless families.

Featured Grant Recipients Manna is a grassroots organization fighting hunger in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in Florida. They provide groceries directly to individuals and families in need, free of charge. Mobile Makers creates programming that encourages youth to become advocates and change-makers in their own communities through design-focused skill-building workshops.
Through various mediums, including art, music and public health, the Sidewalk Project aims to be socially active and to empower houseless communities around the world.

AWI Employees Amplify Our Impact In 2022, we introduced the AWI Workplace Giving and Employee Choice Matching Gift program, giving our employees choice in their philanthropic contributions and broadening our charitable impact. Employees can request a matching gift up to $500 from the AWI Foundation each year.
Monetary Gift Matches for Employees Employees can receive a monetary donation match of up to $250 from the AWI Foundation for eligible organizations. The company provides an AWI Workplace Giving platform with tools to research and contribute to these organizations, as well as request the matching gift directly.
Volunteer Hour Gift Matches for Employees Through the AWI Workplace Giving portal, employees can find eligible volunteer opportunities for the causes that matter most to them. The AWI Foundation will match volunteer hours up to $250 in a calendar year.
