Capital Medical Society Foundation Scholarship is sponsored by Capital Medical Society Foundation. Offers unrestricted financial scholarships to first and second-year medical students at the Florida State University College of Medicine and third and fourth-year students at the Tallahassee Regional Campus, based on financial need.

Medical Student Scholarships - Capital Medical Society Medical Student Scholarships The Capital Medical Society Foundation has provided more than $850,000 in scholarships to medical students, primarily at the Florida State University College of Medicine. Many of the past recipients are now practicing in Tallahassee.

Scholarships are awarded to first and second-year medical students at the FSU College of Medicine main campus in Tallahassee, and third and fourth-year medical students at the Tallahassee Regional Campus of the FSU College of Medicine on the basis of financial need and a stated interest to return to the Big Bend to practice medicine upon completion of their residencies.

The CMSF awards the following scholarships: CMSF General Scholarship(s) The Anesthesiology Associates of Tallahassee Scholarship(s) The William Frederick Lindsey, M. D. and Jimmie Moore Lindsey Scholarship(s) Commemorates renowned Tallahassee radiologist Dr. Fred Lindsey and his wife Jimmie Moore Lindsey, who passed in 2020 and 2023 respectively.

They continue to live on in the hearts and minds of the members of the Capital Medical Society and the scholarship recipients through the family’s generous endowment. The Charles D. “Pedro” Williams, M.

D. Scholarship(s) Established in 2022 by nationally recognized pediatric radiologist Dr. Charles D. “Pedro” Williams, the scholarship reflects his deep appreciation for the transformative power of education—something he personally experienced as a recipient of financial support during his own academic journey.

Now retired, Dr. Williams was born the son of a Colquitt County sharecropper in southern Georgia and raised in Moultrie. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, serve in the U.S. Air Force, and launch a distinguished medical career in Tallahassee beginning in 1974. The application window for the scholarships above is open each year through late June.

D. Scholarship in Internal Medicine Endowment and The Julia Revell St. Petery, M.

D. Scholarship in Pediatrics Endowment . Scholarship recipients are selected by FSU College of Medicine committees and presented in conjunction with commencement festivities each May.

Scholarship in Internal Medicine Endowment An award-winning internist, Dr. Smith was raised in Bainbridge, Georgia, graduated first in his class from Emory University School of Medicine in 1956, served in the U.S. Army, and arrived in Tallahassee to practice professionally in 1962. He was instrumental in recruiting hematology/oncology and cardiac specialists to join the local medical community.

Throughout his distinguished career, he played a pivotal role in advancing cardiac care in Tallahassee and remains deeply committed to this cause. The Julia Revell St. Petery, M.

D. Scholarship in Pediatrics Endowment A beloved pediatrician in Tallahassee, Dr. Judy dedicated her life to the health and well-being of Florida’s children. Her legacy of compassion and tireless advocacy continues to shape the lives of countless families and will benefit generations to come.

Dr. Judy was a passionate champion for adoptees, foster children, and for expanding access to quality medical care for all. She and fellow pediatricians founded the Tallahassee Pediatric Foundation, ensuring that every child—regardless of insurance status—could receive the same level of care as those with private insurance. Alongside her husband, Dr. Louis St.

Petery, she successfully led a landmark lawsuit against Florida Medicaid, holding the state accountable under Title XIX of the Social Security Act to provide equal access to health and dental care for Medicaid-enrolled children. In recognition of her extraordinary commitment to children, an anonymous donor established this endowment in her memory.
