CFI Innovation Fund 2027

CFI Innovation Fund 2027 is sponsored by Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The Innovation Fund supports infrastructure needs for research areas across various fields, including medical, health, and life sciences. This can include infrastructure for breast cancer research projects.

Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund (IF) 2027 - Internal Call for Proposals - Research & Innovation Skip to McMaster Navigation Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund (IF) 2027 – Internal Call for Proposals The CFI will provide a maximum of 40% of total project costs to successful projects.

It is anticipated that a further 40% will be requested from Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES) and, if applicable, the provinces of other participating institutions. The remaining 20% is traditionally provided through vendor discounts, institutional and/or other eligible sources.

DeGroote School of Business Faculty of Social Sciences CANADA FOUNDATION FOR INNOVATION (CFI) CFI Innovation Fund (IF) competitions are held at intervals of approximately 24 months. It is anticipated that the CFI will release a draft Call for Proposals for the IF 2027 competition in spring 2026, with an application deadline in the early winter of 2027.

The CFI IF supports the modernization, acquisition, development or leasing of research infrastructure that: Enables internationally competitive research or technology development through the equitable participation of expert team members Enhances the capacity of institutions to conduct the research or technology development program over the useful life of the infrastructure Generates benefits for Canadians.

CFI expects projects to demonstrate appropriate maturity and offer the best potential for transformative impact. Additional Program Information: The CFI limits the amount of funding an institution may request for the IF competition by providing each institution with a defined allocation.

Although McMaster’s allocation is unknown at this time, it is anticipated that the allocation will be insufficient to allow the submission of all McMaster proposals. McMaster will therefore undertake an internal selection process which will begin with submission of a Notice of Intent (NOI).

Application/Nomination Process: By September 15 , researchers who are interested in requesting a portion of McMaster’s allocation, either as Team Leaders (maximum two per proposal) or as participants in projects led by other institutions , will complete and submit an NOI form to ROADS.

Meeting to discuss the NOI Upon receipt of the completed NOI form, a meeting will be arranged with the Deputy Vice-President Research, your Associate Dean Research/Vice-Dean Research, representatives of ROADS, and representatives of Health Research Services (as applicable) to discuss: your proposal, including: how your proposal is innovative and timely; how you intend to apply principles of equity, diversity and inclusion to all components of the proposal, including research design, team composition, and benefits to Canadians; why McMaster should lead, or participate in (if led by another institution), this proposal; and next steps in McMaster’s internal selection process.

Two information sessions will be arranged for mid-August to provide an overview of the program and key elements of successful proposals.
