The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program is a federal funding program administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) that supports transportation projects designed to reduce congestion and improve air quality.
Established through federal transportation legislation, the program provides funding for eligible projects that contribute to cleaner air, improved mobility, and more efficient transportation systems. As a designated air quality non-attainment area, Tehama County receives CMAQ funding to support projects that help meet and maintain federal air quality standards while addressing regional transportation needs.
