Democracy Fund Grants (General Program Support) is sponsored by Democracy Fund. Democracy Fund supports organizations that counter immediate threats to American democracy, build people's power to shape their communities, and reimagine a democracy that works for everyone.

For Grantee Partners - Democracy Fund Partner with us to create a future where everyone can thrive. As a foundation, Democracy Fund has a responsibility to do all we can to reverse democratic backsliding and create a democracy that works for everyone. This hinges on supporting the critical work of nonpartisan pro-democracy movements and leaders.

Respect, learning, and collaboration are always at the core of our grantmaking approach. We aim to remove roadblocks for our grantee partners by providing flexible funding and reporting methods, while serving as a strategic partner. Beyond the dollars we invest, Democracy Fund also looks for opportunities to add value to the pro-democracy field by acting as a convener and connector.

Portal for Current Grantees Through our grantmaking, Democracy Fund strives to be a catalyst for ensuring freedom, dignity, justice, and well-being for everyone in the United States. Whenever possible, we prioritize making multi-year grants to support our grantee partners’ ability to plan long-term.

We proactively seek grantee partners that correspond with our strategic priorities, and we work closely with them to help achieve their goals. For the greatest possible impact, we invest according to a specific set of criteria: We look for nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations aligned with our strategic direction and areas of focus . Our ideal grantee partners build people power to solve the biggest challenges facing our democracy.

We look for pro-democracy leaders and organizations working to make a significant difference in Americans’ lives by countering immediate threats to our democracy and building for the future. We look for organizations who aim to disrupt the status quo, develop community-driven solutions, and explore courageous ideas.

We look for organizations that practice exemplary governance with operational excellence, including strong financial oversight and legal compliance, transparent practices, and a healthy work culture. Partnering for Transformative Change We invest in the success of our grantee partners, collaborating with them to achieve shared goals while learning together.

As appropriate, Democracy Fund team can help: Provide knowledge on topics where we have expertise or experience; Make introductions to relevant contacts in our network who might offer useful insights, practices, or resources; Connect grantee partners to help them pursue collaborations, build relationships, and share ideas.

We also support the field at large by encouraging more funders to support pro-democracy work, and shifting philanthropic practices for the better. We are grateful to our grantee partners for deepening our understanding of the systems we seek to influence to build a democracy that works for all. Democracy Fund supports a wide array of inspiring pro-democracy grantees.
