The program awards a $10,000 USD grant to one selected artist or ensemble (up to four members). This comprehensive funding supports a one-month residency in Yokohama, covering travel, housing, living expenses, and project development. The initiative is designed to foster artistic innovation, cross-cultural dialogue, and community engagement through the exploration of contemporary sound and experimental performance.
During the residency, the selected artist will engage with Yokohama’s creative community through a series of public events, including workshops, open rehearsals, lecture-demonstrations, and collaborative sessions. The residency will culminate in a final public concert or sound installation at 7artscafe, further enriching Yokohama’s vibrant cultural landscape.
Eligibility & Timeline: The program is open to professional musicians and sound-based creators aged 25 or older who reside outside of Japan. Applicants must have a minimum of five years of professional experience and demonstrate active artistic practice within the last 24 months. Please note that this cycle is dedicated exclusively to music and sound; visual artists are not eligible for the 2026–2027 program.

About Edeiken International Arts Foundation (EIAF): Established in 2021 by philanthropist Dr. Nicole Edeiken, the EIAF is dedicated to supporting artists worldwide. The foundation provides unique opportunities for artistic development and cultural immersion, strengthening the bond between Japan and the global arts community.
Residency Period: One month scheduled between April 2026 and March 2027 Applicants must work primarily in one or more of the following fields: Music composition, Instrumental or vocal performance, Sound art or experimental audio, Electronic or digital music production, Interdisciplinary performance rooted in sound or musical structure. 2.
Professional Experience Have a minimum of five years of continuous professional experience, and demonstrate verifiable artistic activity within the last 24 months. Examples of acceptable activities: a) Concerts, recitals, or festival performances b) Commissions or premieres c) Commercial or formally released recordings d) Awards, fellowships, or previous residencies 3.
Nationality, Age & Residency Open to musicians living or working outside Japan who are at least 25 years old at the time of application. Preference is given to applicants whose work reflects international exchange and innovative cross-genre or cross-cultural practice. Ensembles of up to 4 members may apply with one unified application.
One grant of $10,000 is awarded per selected individual or ensemble. 5. Commitment to Residency Requirements Selected applicants must agree to: a) Reside in Yokohama for the full 1-month residency, b) Participate fully in all scheduled public, artistic, and community activities, c) Present a final public performance or sound installation at 7artscafe.
Pay by artists / Support for artists Grant & Residency Details The selected artist or ensemble will receive $10,000 USD, which may be applied toward: Round-trip airfare, housing in Yokohama, living expenses, local transportation, project materials. Payments will be made in four installments. Expenses beyond $10,000 are the responsibility of the artist.
Applicants will be evaluated on: 1. Artistic Excellence- originality, musicality, technical skill, and clarity of vision. 2.
Feasibility of Project - realistic scope for a one-month residency. 3. Community Impact - ability to engage and inspire local audiences.
4. International & Cross-Cultural Relevance – contribution to cultural dialogue. 5.
