FDA -- Integrating Machine Learning with Computational Fluid Dynamics Models of Orally Inhaled Drug Products (U01) Clinical Trials Not Allowed | Research Funding National Institutes of Health FDA -- Integrating Machine Learning with Computational Fluid Dynamics Models of Orally Inhaled Drug Products (U01) Clinical Trials Not Allowed Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has played a crucial role in providing an alternative bioequivalence (BE) approach for generic orally inhaled drug products (OIDPs), in addition to comparative clinical endpoint or pharmacodynamic BE studies, as a relatively cost- and time-efficient complement to benchtop and clinical experiments that has been widely used in developing and assessing generic inhaler devices.
However, despite the advances in the power of modern computers, there are still some bottlenecks in using CFD due to computational time, limited grid resolution, pre- and post-processing of large simulation data sets, model parameter estimations, and uncertainty quantifications. Machine learning (ML) has been gaining more attention as a potential tool to alleviate such limitations that arise in CFD.
The purpose of this grant is to develop a methodology to integrate ML with CFD models of OIDPs to promote alternative BE studies to enhance and accelerate the development and approval of generic OIDPs.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to advance efforts for a nationally integrated animal food safety system providing state animal food regulatory programs the ability to achieve full implementation of the Animal Food Regulatory Program Standards (AFRPS) within 5 years and to maintain full implementation. This NOFO will also fund optional projects for state animal food regulatory programs to:Advance food safety and protect public health by strengthening partnerships with the FDA and other state animal food regulatory partners through sharing, collaboration, coordination, and leveraging each other’s expertise, work, data, and enforcement actions.Develop and standardize processes, procedures, systems, and other methods to integrate federal and state animal food regulatory work resulting in mutual reliance.Specific outcomes may include, but are not limited to:State animal food regulatory programs will achieve and maintain implementation of the AFRPS, which is recognized as a critical element to creating a national, fully integrated food safety system.Operational use of standardized animal food regulatory systems developed by state programs to compel federal reliance on state regulatory work and resources and reciprocal state reliance on federal work and resources, resulting in mutual reliance. This project will strengthen and improve FDA efforts to build an integrated food safety system by building high quality state animal food regulatory programs that can promote regulatory compliance and prevent foodborne illnesses. Funding Opportunity Number: PAR-25-003. Assistance Listing: 93.103. Funding Instrument: CA. Category: AG,CP,FN. Award Amount: Up to $300K per award.
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), builds upon the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS) which was initiated in 1996 as one of the key activities in a national action plan to combat antibiotic resistance threats. The purpose of this FOA is to protect and promote public health by enhancing, strengthening, and sustaining antibiotic resistance surveillance in retail food specimens within the NARMS program. The NARMS cooperative agreement is intended to improve the detection of antibiotic resistance among bacteria in food commodities, as well as expand to new sites to expand the scope of sampling. Measurable outcomes of the program will be in alignment with the NARMS Objectives. Funding Opportunity Number: PAR-25-014. Assistance Listing: 93.103. Funding Instrument: CA. Category: AG,CP,FN. Award Amount: Up to $200K per award.
This cooperative agreement is intended to enhance the capacity and capabilities of state human and animal food testing laboratories in support of an integrated food safety system (IFSS). This is achieved through prioritized sample testing and food defense preparedness in the areas of microbiology, chemistry, and radiochemistry, as well as method development and capacity/capability development projects that support and expand food safety and food defense testing. Funding Opportunity Number: RFA-FD-25-007. Assistance Listing: 93.103. Funding Instrument: CA. Category: AG,CP,FN. Award Amount: Up to $1.5M per award.
The AFID Infrastructure Grant program closes October 30, 2026. Awards top out at $50,000, they are reimbursable, and only a political subdivision can apply. The August round put $507,000 into 14 projects at an average of about $36,000.
Read articleThe Cold Chain Grants for Emergency Food Assistance Program closes October 1, 2026, funding cold storage equipment at up to $200,000 per project with a 10% cash match. But USDA is not awarding to food banks — it is awarding to nonprofit intermediaries who will run competitive subaward programs. Two audiences, two entirely different jobs, and one of them has 43 days.
Read articleMissouri's Department of Agriculture has reopened its Urban Agriculture Cost-Share Grant — reimbursing 75% of project costs up to $10,000, with applications due September 15, 2026. A companion Food Insecure Cost-Share Grant closes August 26. Here is how these small, fast state grants work, who qualifies under the Census 'urban area' definition, and how to layer them with the federal USDA Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production program for a durable urban-farming funding strategy.
