New Grant Program Awards $632,590 in Grants to Enhance Healthcare for Upper Peninsula Seniors The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation awarded $632,590 in grants to 14 organizations through the Investing in the Health of the Upper Peninsula program. The funding supports community-based efforts to improve healthcare services and resources for older adults living across Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The program is a partnership with the Michigan Health Endowment Fund and Superior Health Foundation. Together, the organizations are supporting initiatives that strengthen access to healthcare, social support and caregiver programs to help seniors remain healthy and independent in their communities.
Learn about the new grant program Hospice of Michigan Supports Families of Terminally Ill Children with Personalized Bereavement Care and Legacy-Building Services Each year, the Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children at Hospice of Michigan provides comprehensive care, comfort and peace to approximately 100 terminally ill children and their families.
The program offers compassionate hospice and grief support, helping families navigate complex medical care while focusing on meaningful time together. A Community Health Matching Grant from the BCBSM Foundation has allowed the program to hire a legacy care specialist and boost its memory-making services. These efforts strengthen access to bereavement care, ensuring patients and their families have the support they need.

With support from a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation grant, the organization is expanding its capacity to serve women in Detroit as they work toward stability and independence. The program takes a holistic approach, offering life skills training, behavioral health support and connections to community-based services.
By addressing housing, transportation and other factors that impact healthcare access, Haven Homes helps residents focus on healing while building the skills and resources needed for long-term well-being.
