LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) Grants is sponsored by Institute of Museum and Library Services (administered by State Library Administrative Agencies). The Grants to States program is the largest source of federal funding support for library services in the U.S. Funding is distributed to State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAAs) based on a population formula. SLAAs then use these funds to support statewide initiatives and services, and may also distribute them through competitive subawards or cooperative agreements to public, academic, research, school, or special libraries or consortia. Funds support a variety of services, including access to electronic databases, computer instruction, homework centers, summer reading programs, and outreach to underserved populations.

2025 – 2026 LSTA Community Impact Grants is sponsored by CA State Library. The California State Library’s LSTA Community Impact grants opportunity helps California’s libraries respond effectively to local needs and align services with local community aspirations; support experimentation and research and development in California’s libraries; and provide training and support in grant writing and grant management for the California library community. We invite libraries and other eligible organizations to apply for funding to support local and collaborative projects that address community needs and align with community aspirations. Projects should be guided by the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Projects should align with goal one of the State Library’s current LSTA Five Year Plan. We are especially interested in projects from library jurisdictions and branches of library jurisdictions that have not received LSTA funding in the last five years, and collaborative projects that represent a variety of regions, library sizes, and populations. However, we welcome applications from all California library jurisdictions, library consortia, and library-focused on-profit organizations, and on any topic and serving any group. Agencies applying for a local competitive grant and requesting $75,000 or above, and agencies applying for a collaborative competitive grant must plan to work with a project partner (in addition to the collaborative applicant group) and must have at least one project partner in place before an application is submitted. Types of Grant Opportunities Two types of grant opportunities are available: Local Competitive Grants support projects that focus on one library jurisdiction and can include projects focusing on one branch in one library jurisdiction. Collaborative Competitive Grants support projects that are implemented by three or more library jurisdictions. After-School Community Learning Grant Program is a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education that funds out-of-school-time learning programs for youth across Minnesota. The program supports community and nonprofit organizations, culturally specific organizations, American Indian organizations, Tribal Nations, public libraries, political subdivisions, and school-based programs providing after-school and out-of-school enrichment. Funding amounts start at $10,000 and vary based on program size and need. Eligible applicants include a broad range of community organizations and government entities serving youth in Minnesota outside regular school hours.

Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grants (Administered by IMLS through State Libraries) is sponsored by Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). LSTA grants provide funds to State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAAs) to assist libraries and library-related agencies in developing programs and projects that enhance library services. These funds often support programs centered on early literacy development, grade-level reading, summer programs, and can be used to purchase Braille and talking books, homework, and research resources.
