Most grants are applied toward the completion of a single song or track, though funds may be used across multiple songs or tracks as part of a recording project. Grant funds are paid directly toward eligible recording expenses . Recording Fund will issue payment to one or more approved service providers for costs such as: Service providers are selected and vetted by the applicant.

Spring 2026 Grant Schedule: Updated To better serve Montana’s artists and musicians, Recording Fund is expanding the Made in Montana Grant into two application cycles in 2026: Spring and Summer . As part of this expansion, we are extending the current application deadline to February 15, 2026 .
This will serve as the Spring grant cycle , with applications reviewed and awards announced by March 15, 2026 . A Summer grant cycle will follow, with an application deadline of July 15, 2026 . Applications not selected in the Spring cycle will be reconsidered alongside new submissions received by the Summer deadline - and selections will be made within 4-6 weeks of the deadline.
Applications must be submitted via the application portal by 11:59 PM MST on February 15, 2026 MST. The application will be closed after this time. A selection committee will review applications throughout February.
Selected applicants will be notified by mid-March—exact date TBA. Awardees will have access to grant funds upon notification. From the time of notification of the award and the signing of the grant agreement, grantees will have 3 months to use their grant funding.
