STEM Education - Maryland Space Business Roundtable (MSBR) A Robust STEM Workforce Strengthens Our Space Community America’s aerospace workforce is aging, and Maryland’s workforce is no exception. We must develop the next generation of scientists and engineers, and at a rapid pace, to sustain U.S. leadership in space, advance scientific exploration, provide accurate weather forecasting, and support our warfighter.
MSBR’s goal is to encourage STEM education leadership in Maryland for a thriving aerospace workforce future. MSBR is proud to have made broad STEM investments across the entire Maryland region, helping expand the reach of STEM programs, including a focus on underserved populations. STEM Grant Applications now closed MSBR has provided STEM grants for up to 37 organizations in a calendar year.
2025 STEM Grant Recipients Atholton Technology Boosters Atholton Technology Boosters is a robotics team at Atholton High School in Columbia, MD, with the mission to use teamwork to help the STEM community. Baltimore City Engineering Alliance Equipping teachers, connects students to STEM pathways, engages families and counselors, partners with industry, and advances career and college readiness.
Their mission is to equip Montgomery County youth with skills and knowledge to envision futures in STEM, they work diligently to inspire their community and increase STEM awareness. The Blue Cru Rockville-based student robotics team who innovate by creating award-winning robots, mentoring peers, training youth, and championing equitable access to STEM education.
Their goal is to grow a diverse community of inquiring thinkers both within and outside of teams Cryptic and Epsilon. They provide any student, regardless of background, the opportunities to pursue STEM and acquire valuable experiences for their prospective futures.
The Code Quest mission is to empower students to pursue STEAM with confidence, curiosity, enthusiasm and a genuine sense of belonging; to foster creativity and innovation through hands-on learning; and to expose K-12 students to career opportunities and empower them to achieve their dreams. The team strives to balance innovation, competition, and outreach while expanding access to STEM education in its community and across the globe.
They host events, help other teams, establish training programs, and provide resources for others to be successful. Infinite Voltage in Harford County is composed of high school students and mentors that work together to create a functioning robot while learning team building skills. Students can broaden their understandings of technology and science in an encouraging work environment.
LIFE Engineering is a Bowie, MD-based team with the mission to inspire young people to be STEM leaders with hands-on mentoring, activities, skills, and experience to empower leadership with values and purpose. The FIRE program’s outreach centers on expanding access to STEM education and college readiness resources, including workshops to match college and internship opportunities with member goals and interests. Gear Rotation is an all-girls FTC team based in Howard County, MD, made up of students from 8th-11th grade.
Their mission is to motivate and inspire while strengthening engineering skills, connecting with the STEM community, and striving for continuous improvement. Howard Dynamics is based in Howard County, MD, made up of members from 5 different schools. Their mission is to spread awareness and encourage interest in robotics, as well as inspire young people in STEM-related activities.
Their aim is to increase their impact to 3000 individuals in the community. The annual Festival consists of hundreds of free family events focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics across Maryland. The mission is to encourage all students regardless of background and experience to take a greater interest in STEM.
Morgan State University ASME Student Section This is a multidisciplinary organization with over 30 general body members. Their mission is to equip students with real-world engineering experience through technical projects, workshops, and leadership opportunities that foster collaboration, creativity, and professional growth.
Air Tigers of DuVal High School, mainly made up of minorities, is mentored by Mentors Advancing STEAM Education, a local nonprofit organization that recruits local engineers, mathematicians, and scientists to volunteer their time for STEAM education in and beyond the classroom. Oakland Mills Science Olympiad The team continues to grow, reaching more of the student population.
Their students train for events in a variety of scientific disciplines, from biology to astronomy. The team has been growing since its founding and has impacted many students who have gone on to choose STEM careers. Orca Robotics is from Potomac, MD, with the goal of making STEM more accessible to everyone and reaching higher levels in FTC.
The team has held a summer camp and other events for low income communities, exhibits at school events, and scrimmages to help robotics teams connect with each other. The team takes part in multiple scrimmages, where they learn about robots in friendly competition. They have volunteered at the FTC Maryland Tech Invitational and international competitions, where the best robots compete.
They also help teams nationwide. Patriots Tech Training Center The Patriots’ mission is to expand programs raising awareness among 5-12th grade students by offering a variety of learning opportunities that encourage the students to pursue STEM fields, while expanding their AI and Cybersecurity Program to provide hands-on training.
The Power Hawks team is based out of South River High School with the mission to inspire future generations through competitive robotics. They are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and forward-thinking environment, advocating for diversity, equity, and accessibility in STEM . The Robo-Lions are a small community-based team in the rural region of Carroll County, MD.
In addition to designing, building, and programming a competition ready robot, they strive to meet the goal of “Bringing Robotics to All” through their many outreach events. The Robotiators were the first FRC team in Howard County MD.
While their focus is on STEM education, they live by the motto “selfless service is our purpose” Their mission is to expand and provide access to STEM education for children of all ages, while providing a helping hand towards their community. Science & Math Innovators, Inc. engages K-9 students through maSTErMinds camps, blending physics and engineering concepts with hands-on exploration.
Programs foster critical thinking, belonging, and empowerment, particularly for girls and African-Americans, inspiring long-term interest and confidence in STEM. Based at Dulaney High, Team 1727 REX is the only FIRST Robotics team in Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS).
As a team, they strive to inspire the next generation of innovators by engaging with their community and expanding STEM education through student membership and outreach. Terps Racing is University of Maryland’s award-winning motorsports team, empowering 120+ students to design, build, and race vehicles while developing Maryland’s next generation of STEM leaders.
The THS Model Rocket Club provides hands-on aerospace learning, enabling students to design, build, and launch rockets while applying engineering principles and competing in the American Rocketry Challenge.
The Women in Engineering Get Outside and Learn (GOAL) Engineering Kit Program aims to increase interest in STEM among local communities by introducing concepts through interactive engineering kits and exposure to educational pathways at the University of Maryland.
