Kentucky Conference: Methodist Education Fund (MEF) Methodist Education Fund (MEF) Since 1968, the Ministerial Education Fund (MEF) apportionment has helped thousands of men and women become pastoral leaders in the United Methodist Church.
It is nurtured and funded by United Methodists to provide: Vitally needed seminary scholarships through annual conferences; Essential funds for the support of our 13 United Methodist seminaries in the United States; Programs that encourage men and women to respond to the call to ordained ministry; Continuing-education opportunities for pastors across the connection; and Course-of-study education for local pastors.
MEF funding is a grant from the Kentucky Annual Conference for certified candidates in seminary pursuing ministry vocation. Beginning July 1, 2021 , funding for seminary students will be provided based upon the number of credit hours for that semester. Each eligible candidate shall receive $325.
00 per credit hour. MEF recipients are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3. 0 or higher.
Failure to do so will result in suspension of assistance until such time as the GPA is raised to that level. If a course is failed by a seminary student, the following semester the student's award will be reduced by the amount invested in the previously failed course. The full MEF application is completed only once for each academic year and covers both fall and spring semesters.
The application must be submitted to the Office of Ministerial Services along with the additional verification steps, which are detailed in the application process. A confirmation email outlining the steps necessary, will be sent upon successful submission of your annual application. Verification steps will need to be completed for both spring and fall semesters.
Note: MEF money is not available for Summer Terms and J-Terms. For a link to the MEF seminary scholarship application please contact Courtney Garrett at [email protected] . MEF funds are also available for local pastors who attend the Course of Study program.
Funding for Course of Study students is critical to helping our local pastors meet their educational requirements. Beginning July 1, 2021 all Local Pastors shall receive $250. 00 per course.
After completing the Basic Course of Study , a local pastor may choose to continue the process toward provisional membership through the Advanced Course of Study . It includes 32 hours of master’s level education in a seminary recognized by the University Senate. It must include studies in United Methodist history, doctrine and polity.
MEF funds are also used to assist with the tuition and expenses for License for Ministry School . MEF funds also help to supplement funding for Continuing Education events in order to provide for low cost opportunities for quality events here in Kentucky.
