The Native Hawaiian Education (NHE) program supports innovative educational programs to assist Native Hawaiians and recognizes the important role that Native Hawaiian language and culture play in the educational success and well-being of Native Hawaiian students.
Authorized activities include early education and care programs, family-based education centers, literacy programs, activities for gifted and talented students, special education programs, professional development for educators, and activities to enable Native Hawaiian students to enter and complete postsecondary education programs. In FY 2024, the program awarded 11 new grants totaling $10 million.

Congress expressly authorized that FY 2014 program funds may be used to support the construction, renovation, or modernization of any elementary school, secondary school, or structure related to an elementary school or secondary school, that is run by the Department of Education of the State of Hawaii that serves a predominately Native Hawaiian student body.
