Nebraska NEXT is a talent attraction and retention program from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development that funds immersive events and strategies to connect individuals with employers, communities, and opportunities in Nebraska, as part of the Good Life Is Calling campaign.
The program is an acronym for Nebraska Employment eXploration and Transition, and focuses on engaging veterans and separating service members, top collegiate talent, alumni and boomerangs, industry professionals, and quality-of-life seekers. Events range from half-day sessions to multi-day experiences, including a collegiate talent forum, a service member transition program, and various community-based engagement events.
The program is part of Nebraska's broader statewide talent attraction strategy and partners with communities, colleges, employers, and state agencies. Proposals for Talent Proposal Initiatives had an extended deadline of December 20, 2024.

Our goal is to retain and attract top talent to Nebraska by linking individuals with employers, communities, and resources that help them make the decision to move to Nebraska or stay and make Nebraska home. Talent We’re Investing In Nebraska NEXT focuses on engaging and connecting with: Veterans & Separating/Retiring Service Members - Helping service members transition into civilian careers and community life.
Top Collegiate Talent – Showcasing opportunities for students and graduates to build their future here. Alumni & Boomerangs – Encouraging Nebraskans who’ve left to return home. Industry Professionals – Connecting talent to key employers and industries.
Quality of Life Chasers – Attracting those seeking a better balance of career, community, and lifestyle. Nebraska NEXT events are designed to be immersive, flexible, and impactful. Ranging from half-day sessions to mulit-day experiences.
Potential events are: Nebraska Next: helping service members transition into Nebraska careers and communities. Collegiate Talent Forum: After class engagements to connect with students and opportunities. Elite Weekend – Curated experiences for out-of-state students exploring Nebraska’s industries and quality of life.
Back to the Good Life – Events for alumni and root-returners ready to explore a return home. Live Well, Live Here – Community tours highlighting quality of life, neighborhoods, schools and housing.
Nebraska Next: Connecting Service Members to Careers and Communities Nebraska Next: Connecting Service Members to Careers and Communities is a half-day immersive experience designed for transitioning service members and their spouses currently stationed at Offutt AFB .
The event connects attendees with Nebraska employers, veteran professionals (“previous movers”), educational institutions, and community resource partners—helping them explore meaningful careers and community life in Nebraska. Sponsorship Opportunities Tiered sponsorships are available for employers, educational institutions, and community partners.
