Jointly Sponsored Institutional Predoctoral Training Program (JSPTPN) | National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Jointly Sponsored Institutional Predoctoral Training Program (JSPTPN) The NIH Jointly Sponsored Predoctoral Training Program in the Neurosciences (JSPTPN) is a multi-Institute effort that provides support for first- and second-year graduate students to obtain broad-based fundamental research training across the neuroscience spectrum.
In addition to a broad education in fundamental neuroscience, the programs supported under this mechanism are expected to provide a strong foundation in experimental design, statistical methodology, quantitative literacy as well as strong oral and written communication skills.

S citizens or permanent residents in research doctoral programs U.S. domestic institutions The JSPTPN program is a collective effort led by NINDS and NIMH , with the contribution of NIA , NEI , NIDA , NICHD , NIAAA , NIBIB , NIEHS , NCCIH , NCATS , NIDCR , NINR , NIDCD , NIGMS , the Office of the Director, and the NIH Blueprint, to support broad-based and fundamental research training in the neurosciences.
The primary objective of the JSPTPN is to prepare individuals for careers in neuroscience that have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the nation. JSPTPN programs will support students for 2 years.
The NIH Blueprint will only support programs that fulfil the following criteria: provide broad and fundamental research training in the neurosciences; include a curriculum that provides a strong foundation in experimental design, statistical methodology and quantitative reasoning; include laboratory rotations that allow students to explore different research areas, scientific approaches, and laboratory cultures; and students may only be appointed to this training grant during the first 2 years of their graduate research training.
Applicants are requested to indicate that they are applying for the NIH Blueprint JSPTPN in the application cover letter and to direct their application to NINDS in the Assignment Request Form. The JSPTPN program is managed by an NIH-wide steering committee with one member from each of the participating institutes.
Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the JSPTPN website and contact the Scientific Program Contacts to discuss their concept for this initiative during the development stages of the application.
