Security Grant – Urgent Action Fund apply for a security grant Please read the eligibility requirements below. Security grants can be used to support the safety and security of activists. The time frame between receiving the grant and reporting back is 3 months.

We accept applications in all languages. Translation needs may increase the time needed for a decision to be made. Grant amounts are up to $8,000 USD.

We confirm receipt of applications within 24 hours. Decisions are made within 15 business days. Once a grant is approved, funds can be wired within 5 to 10 business days.

Primarily Women/Trans/Non-binary Led Women, trans, or non-binary people must be the primary decision makers Focus on women, trans, and non-binary rights: Actions proposed must benefit women, trans, and non-binary people Urgent and Unanticipated: The specific situation must be unanticipated and time urgent.

Actions must be implemented within 3 months of approval of the grant The group must have support from local or international feminist activists or networks Individuals who are not activists Planned projects/activities/service delivery programs Charity/humanitarian assistance/social services Annual operating costs (rent, salary, overhead costs) Organizations with a budget of over $1 million USD Capital projects, for example, building construction or making building improvements Use our grants portal to create a profile and easily check your application status (our preferred method for receiving applications).

Chinyere Ezie is a Senior Staff Attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights, where she advocates for racial justice, gender justice, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) rights, and challenges governmental abuses of power.

Chinyere previously worked at the Southern Poverty Law Center where she brought cases defending the rights of LGBTQI+ Southerners. She also served as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where she litigated employment discrimination cases and secured a $5. 1 million jury verdict on behalf of workers subjected to unlawful treatment.

Chinyere is a William J. Fulbright Scholar, a White House Fellows Program Regional Panelist, and a cum laude graduate of Yale University. She also received a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School, where she was an Alexander Hamilton Scholar and served as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Gender and Law.

Chinyere serves on the Board of Directors of the Transgender Law Center and the feminist grant-making organization the Urgent Action Fund. She was also a Founding Board Member of the National Trans Bar Association. In 2018, she was named one of the nation’s Best LGBTQI+ Lawyers Under 40.
