Senseye: Integrating Senseye's Breakthrough Solution in Telehealth for Mental Health Diagnostics Senseye Inc. proposes to integrate its breakthrough AI-powered digital biomarker platform into the Air Force's telehealth systems to address the urgent need for rapid, objective mental health diagnostics.
Senseye’s solution leverages smartphone cameras to capture and analyze ocular data, providing accurate and non-invasive assessments of conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. The platform delivers real-time results without requiring internet connectivity, making it ideal for low-bandwidth and remote environments.
This enables on-demand mental health evaluations in less than 15 minutes, significantly improving diagnostic speed, precision, and accessibility for service members, regardless of their location. The proposed Phase I effort aims to demonstrate the technical feasibility of deploying Senseye’s mobile-enabled application within the Department of Defense's (DoD) telehealth ecosystem.
Through a series of trials, Senseye’s platform will undergo adaptation to meet the unique requirements of military settings. The ultimate goal is to enhance operational readiness by enabling commanders and clinicians to monitor the mental health status of personnel, providing timely interventions before issues escalate into critical conditions.
Senseye's platform, validated through clinical trials and ongoing SBIR-funded work, addresses the growing demand for objective mental health diagnostics in both military and civilian healthcare systems. With over $13. 8M in funding and a strong track record of peer-reviewed research, Senseye is poised to revolutionize mental health diagnostics through its scalable and cost-effective solution, while advancing toward FDA approval.
This innovation will support the Air Force’s telehealth initiatives, reduce stigma, improve mission readiness, and ensure mental health interventions are accessible to all personnel, even in the most austere environments. Combat-Ready Brain Health: Mobile AI Diagnostics for TBI Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is the signature injury of modern military service—widespread, underdiagnosed, and operationally debilitating.
Since 2000, the DoD has reported over 485,000 diagnosed TBIs, with studies estimating that up to 50% of mild cases (mTBI) go unreported. These injuries degrade cognition, impair decision-making, and elevate the risk of PTSD, depression, suicide, and early separation—without obvious physical signs. Current diagnostics rely on subjective methods, lack scalability, and are unavailable at the point of need.
This Direct-to-Phase II proposal adapts Senseye’s clinically validated, AI-powered mental health platform into the first objective, mobile diagnostic for TBI. The technology analyzes involuntary ocular and autonomic biomarkers—gaze stability, saccadic latency, pupil response, heart rate variability—using only a smartphone camera.
It delivers sub-10-minute, offline-capable assessments without the need for connectivity or clinical supervision. Senseye’s platform has been used by over 3,000 patients, is advancing toward FDA approval for PTSD and MDD, and is commercially deployed in healthcare and pharma applications. The Phase II effort, backed by AFRL, the 59th Medical Wing, and BAMC, will expand Senseye’s biometric models to identify TBI-specific disruptions.
Tasks include AI model training, prototype development, field testing across Air Force units, and iterative refinement based on user feedback. The result will be a deployable, secure, CMMC-compliant diagnostic tool fully aligned with military operational needs and ready for Phase III transition. Senseye’s adaptation addresses a critical readiness gap.
Undetected mTBI contributes to degraded performance in high-risk roles such as aviation, cyber, and special operations. The tool empowers commanders and medics with real-time physiological insights for triage, post-blast evaluation, and return-to-duty decisions—enabling earlier intervention and reducing long-term disability costs. Integration with Air Force platforms such as BATDOK and MHS GENESIS will streamline deployment.
The commercial potential is equally strong. With over 2. 8 million TBIs annually in the U.S., and a $10B+ neurodiagnostics market, Senseye offers a scalable solution for urgent care, sports medicine, telehealth, and behavioral health sectors.
The firm has raised $30M, generated $1. 8M in 2024 revenue, and is projected to reach $8M in 2025. With robust IP, active commercial pilots, and government validation, Senseye is uniquely positioned to transform brain health diagnostics across defense and civilian markets.
Operational Resilience: AI-Powered Mental Health Diagnostics for the Warfighter Mental health remains one of the most significant challenges to warfighter readiness, with suicide now surpassing combat as the leading cause of death among U.S. service members. Current mental health assessments rely on outdated, subjective methods that are slow, resource-intensive, and prone to misdiagnosis.
The Air Force requires an objective, rapid, and scalable solution to assess service members' mental health in real-time and at scale. Senseye is the first AI-driven, non-invasive mental health diagnostic that uses a standard smartphone camera to analyze ocular biomarkers—measuring involuntary eye movements linked to autonomic nervous system activity.
This technology provides an objective, real-time assessment of mental health conditions such as PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) with over 85% accuracy. Unlike traditional methods, Senseye does not require self-reporting, clinician oversight, or internet connectivity, making it deployable in both clinical and operational environments.
The proposed Phase II effort will refine Senseye’s AI model, integrate it into Air Force operational workflows, and validate its effectiveness in real-world settings. The project will focus on:Enhancing AI algorithms to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce potential biases. Conducting validation studies with military personnel to ensure efficacy across diverse operational environments.
Integrating with Air Force medical and telehealth systems for seamless deployment. Developing a secure, DoD-compliant platform that aligns with military cybersecurity and data protection standards. By leveraging Senseye, the Air Force gains a transformative capability to proactively monitor mental health, reduce non-deployable rates, and improve force readiness.
This technology represents a paradigm shift in military medicine, replacing subjective evaluations with precision-driven, AI-enabled diagnostics. Successful implementation will directly support the Air Force’s Operational Imperative #7—Readiness to Deploy and Fight—ensuring warfighters receive timely and data-driven mental health support before conditions escalate into crises.

Our unique approach to both deep learning and signal extraction are fully patented, and we continue investigating aggressively in research and development. Our pipeline includes diagnostics for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Diagnosis of MDD and PTSD is complicated due to the lack of objective criteria and a reliance on the self-report of symptoms.
All of these mental health conditions exist on a spectrum of severity. Diagnosis of these conditions and detecting the severity is further complicated due to the lack of objective criteria and a reliance on the patient’s self-report of symptoms. Senseye technology uses high-resolution video footage of the eye and heart-rate measurements to quantify previously inaccessible physiological insights for mental health.
Senseye’s approach to quantifying brain activity is non-invasive, inexpensive, and highly accessible. Senseye is currently developing diagnostic tools for both PTSD and MDD. The results from the initial pilot study conducted at UCLA for the PTSD diagnostic tool are extremely promising and show clear differences in ocular and heart rate metrics between PTSD patients and healthy controls.
For the PTSD pilot study, both control and PTSD patients are instructed to view various visual stimuli (moving dots, various images, and varying brightness on screen) and their heart rate and ocular signals (pupil dilation, constriction, eye movement, blinks etc.) are measured throughout.
The Senseye PTSD diagnostic tool has measured significant differences in several ocular metrics as well as heart rate and heart rate variability during the pilot study. The proposed MDD diagnostic tool will be developed using similar methodology as the PTSD diagnostic tool.
A similar mobile application will be developed, and the same computer vision and analytical processes will be used to extract features from the video and heart rate data. The MDD diagnostic tool will use different stimuli and tasks that are specifically targeted to detect neurophysiological differences relevant to MDD.
