Social Entrepreneurs for Economic Development 3 (SEED 3) is sponsored by Employment Training Panel. SEED supports the entrepreneurship of immigrants and limited English proficient (LEP) individuals who face significant employment barriers.
The SEED Initiative will provide micro-grants, entrepreneurial training, and technical assistance to support them in starting or maintaining a small business in California aimed at addressing a social problem or meeting a community need. In June 2020, the California Legislature approved Assembly Bill 82 (Chapter 14, Stats.
2020), which established the Social Entrepreneurs for Economic Development (SEED) Initiative (See California Unemployment Insurance Code, sections 14106 to 14110). The Employment Training Panel (ETP), within the Labor and Workforce Development Agency (Agency), is administering this round of SEED funding on behalf of the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).
SEED target populations are individuals who face significant barriers to employment, specifically: (1) individuals with limited English proficiency, regardless of immigration or citizenship status; or (2) individuals who are neither U.S. citizens nor lawful permanent residents.
This includes individuals who may not be lawfully present in the United States, and individuals who have been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or Temporary Protected Status (TPS). In addition, SEED is open to all individuals in the target populations, including other immigrants, refugees and asylees, and United States citizens.

The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program Fund (EVITP Fund) 2.0 is sponsored by Employment Training Panel. ETP is administering the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program Fund (EVITP Fund) 2.0 in collaboration with the California Energy Commission (CEC) and is pleased to announce the availability of approximately $2,700,000 in funding to increase the number of electricians certified through EVITP within California. The purpose of the EVITP Fund is to train and certify electricians to install electric vehicle charging equipment statewide. EVITP is a nonprofit organization that provides online proprietary training and certification for general electricians to install electric vehicle supply equipment in the United States and Canada. The $275 online training program takes approximately 20 hours to complete. Curriculum modules include load requirements, electrical codes and regulations, electric installation of direct current chargers, inductive charging, vehicle-to-grid applications, and best practices for charger installation and maintenance. After successful completion of the online training course, electricians are certified through a proctored online examination. EVITP does not train or certify contractors or employers, only eligible electricians. EVITP certification is valid for three years.
Brown Girl Jane x SheaMoisture Grant is a grant from SheaMoisture and Brown Girl Jane that funds Black and woman-owned beauty and wellness businesses in the United States. Part of SheaMoisture's broader commitment to addressing racial inequality through its $1 million annual giving fund, this program specifically supports founders at the intersection of Black and women-owned entrepreneurship in the beauty and wellness sector. Applicants must be based in the U.S. and have operated their business for at least one year. Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000.
