Storefront Improvement Program is sponsored by City of Champaign. The Storefront Improvement Program helps business and property owners improve the appearance of storefronts in the City's Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts.

# Storefront & Buildout Programs 2. Planning and Development Department 4. Storefront & Buildout Programs The Storefront Improvement Program helps business and property owners improve the appearance of storefronts in the City’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts.

The program provides financial assistance for exterior building improvements that make commercial areas more attractive and welcoming for customers. The program reimburses a portion of the cost of repairing or restoring storefront façades.

Eligible improvements may include storefront restoration, replacement of windows or architectural glass, reopening covered windows, restoring historic materials such as cast iron or tin, installing exterior lighting, and adding accessible entrances that meet accessibility standards. Funding is provided on a reimbursement basis and is available on a **first-come, first-served** basis.

The program reimburses **up to 50% of eligible ground-floor façade improvements and up to 25% of upper-floor improvements**, with a maximum award of **$10,000 per building**. Property owners or tenants, with the owner’s permission, may apply if the property is located within a commercially zoned building in a TIF district.

Projects must be approved by the City before construction begins and must follow applicable building codes and design guidelines. The Storefront Improvement Program is designed to preserve historic building character, improve storefront appearance, and support vibrant commercial corridors throughout the community. **For more information and to apply for a Storefront Improvement Program grant, please contact planning@champaignil.
