IATJ Homepage - Grants and Scholarships Grants and Scholarships for Japanese Language Students and Educators Japan Foundation Los Angeles Language Grants JFLA administers several types of grant programs to promote Japanese-language education in the United States. These include training programs for teachers and specialists as well as grant programs for educational institutions. Please see the list below for more information.
Each year, the Foundation awards approximately $100,000 in grants of up to $10,000 to schools and non-profit organizations that provide education-related programming. These grants are known as Student Development and Achievement Grants, Japanese Language Education Grants, and U.S.-Japan Partnership Grants.
( Deadline: mid-June ) Laurasia Institution Oka Fund The Oka Fund empowers Japanese language teachers, students of Japanese, and Japan-focused educational programs across the United States and beyond through direct, flexible, low-burden, small-scale grants.
The Fund supports professional growth, student participation, and the resilience of Japan programs, thus advancing a deeper and more enduring understanding of Japanese language and culture.
( Deadlines: January 15 and July 15 ) Program Enrichment & Advocacy Grant Student Assistance Grant : to travel or register to Japanese proficiency tests; to keep enrolling in a Japanese language class; to study abroad Educator Professional Development Grant AATJ Japanese National Honor Society応援 Grant AATJ is pleased to announce the Japanese National Honor Society 応援 ( Ouen ) Grant.
This grant is for current AATJ members and must be used for JNHS activities as part of advocacy and/or seeding money. This grant provides $400 to ten JNHS chapters to be used toward activities between May 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027. Upon completion of the grant activity/activities, recipients will provide a written report about the activities for which the funds were used.
(Deadline for 2027: TBA) The American Association of Teachers of Japanese is excited to announce the creation of the Mayumi and Masao Oka Professional Development Fund through a generous donation by the Okas. See Oka Professional Development Fund.
ACTFL Convention and AATJ Fall Conference Grant 2026 ( Deadline July 1, 2026 ) AATJ Spring Conference Scholarship (2027 TBA) ACTFL Language Connects Foundation Programs and Initiatives ACTFL Black Language Dcuators (ABLE) Institute Future Teacher Scholarship Program Vista Classroom Microgrants for Language Educators (K-12) ICTFL Awards and Scholarships ICTFL Fund for the Future Scholarship for pre-service through fifth-year World Language teachers to defray expenses attending an ICTFL event ICTFL Scholarship for Future World Language Educators Laurasian Institution J-LEAP 米国若手日本語教員プログラム (K-12) オーロラ日本語奨学金基金 JLSF Scholarships (Application deadline: TBD) The primary goal of the scholarships are to assist United States citizens, who are Japanese language teachers or graduate students of Japanese language education, to experience living in Japan and further their understanding of the Japanese language, improve their teaching abilities, and enrich their appreciation of Japanese culture.
All their future students will share in the benefits realized from these scholarships. National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations Grant Programs The National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (NFMLTA), the governing organization of the Modern Language Journal (MLJ), supports five grant opportunities.
