Sulzberger Institute Grant The Sulzberger Institute for Dermatologic Education, part of the American Academy of Dermatology, provides grant support for innovative initiatives in education and technology. Grants typically provide funds to help dermatologists begin projects that will improve patient care.
Apply below! There is also a separate award for a lectureship . Proposals that focus on technology-based projects that are novel and cutting-edge, and also further clinical education in dermatology, are encouraged.
The number of awards and grant amounts is contingent upon the quality of the applications received. Seed grants (up to $30,000 per year) for a period of one year. Small grants (up to $5,000) for a period of one year.
Grants are preferentially awarded to young dermatologists who have not previously received significant extramural funding. Residents and fellows are encouraged to apply. Primary investigators are limited to one grant application per cycle.
The Sulzberger Institute is not interested in funding commercial, for-profit organizations. Projects that create or innovate sharing decision making and practice support tools are of particular interest. Note: Should any funded projects lead to intellectual property with commercial value, the AAD will have the right of first refusal of purchasing or otherwise acquiring this product.
Use our online form to submit your letter of intent. Submissions are due by June 29, 2026. The 2026-2027 submission timeline is below.
Applicants who submit a letter of intent by June 29, 2026, will receive an answer at the end of August. You can see a preview of the full application form (PDF) to prepare your submission. The actual form becomes available at the end of August.
April 24, 2026: Letter of intent form opens. June 29, 2026: Letter of intent form due. Aug.
26, 2026: Approval or denial sent to all LOI applicants. The full application becomes available to those approved. Oct.
19, 2026: Full proposals due. April 2, 2027: Grant recipients notified. Grant applicants must complete the letter of intent form online to be considered to submit a full proposal.
The deadline to submit a letter of intent will be June 29, 2026. All submissions will receive a response from the committee by the end of August 2026.
