Empowered through 300+ Life-changing programs In aid and support delivered to children around the world At just three years old, Miller is unstoppable. Even a rare and undiagnosable genetic condition hasn’t slowed him down. But his journey hasn’t been easy.

Global developmental delay, hypotonia, and dyskinetic movement disorder made getting around difficult. Regardless, Miller’s parents were determined to give him every opportunity to thrive. But progress was slow.

Through hours of intensive therapy, Miller longed for one thing: to play outside with his brothers. Unfortunately, the mobility frame insurance provided wasn’t built for outdoor use, leaving him stuck indoors. Then, during a therapy session, Miller was introduced to a Race Runner—a specialized frame that lets kids move safely on uneven terrain.

For the first time, Miller could walk freely and play outside with his brothers! With every step, his mobility and gait grew stronger, and his confidence soared. But at $5,500, a Race Runner was still out of reach.

That’s when Variety stepped in. With funding and support, Miller received his very own Race Runner, and everything changed for the better. The kids have been having a blast exploring their new toys and sensory equipment at The Atwell Toy Library!

With multiple challenges to overcome following his birth at 25 weeks, Forte is now a fighter with a great smile! Variety DC was delighted to support his continued growth and therapy with his own Rifton Pacer. Giving Diego the gift of independence 13-year-old Diego, a clever and outgoing young man, lives with Polyneuropathy Hereditary Axonal Motor – Dorsolumbal Neuromuscular Scoliosis.
